Research Science Institute 2006

It says PSAT or SAT scores.

I thought you did have to send your transcript?

Of course you do, I don't know where people get these crazy ideas...

lol RSI - no transcripts, and send w/e the heck scores u want.

sounds interesting......

Hey frito, I took AP Calculus and AP Chem my sophomore year but I got a B's in one semester on both courses. I refuse to make any excuses for these bad grades but I did do decent on the respective AP tests(5 on Calc and 4 on Chem). Will these grades seriously hurt my app or will CEE recognize that I took the initiative to take these challenging classes my soph year instead of taking fluff courses to maintain my precious 4.0 GPA?

Also, I am taking SAT 2 Math 2C and Physics on January 28th, 2006. I realize that I will receive the results for these exams after the RSI postmark date, but can I email or contact CEE on a further date to update them with this new info and others(like AMC scores)???

You can update them. With AMC scores, I would be careful. Sending subpar (less than 140 if you're a math kid) scores could look bad, but I don't know much.

And the grades thing shouldn't matter too much, but what can you do about it anyway?

does anyone here haven't taken ap cal ab and is applying for RSI??? just curious becaus it seems like everyone has finished cal bc here

btw, will it look bad if i took a general chemistry class at cc instead of at my school? The class is basically the same as ap chem(but how could they know???i'm pretty sure that there isn't a colum in the application that you can put down description for the transcript), but just that we did like 4 hours of lab/ week. And will it look good if I take the second semester of that general chemistry class? (which is supposed be harder than ap chem because ap chem is the first semester of college chem)

cawaiigirl, does your school offer AP chemistry? And of course you should take chem 2nd semester if you really like it and can handle it.

When sending AP scores, do you have to give ALL scores? I took calc bc and physics C. I did ok in calc but i got a very shameful score in physics that i'd rather not report.

oh and one more question: what would be an acceptable AMC score to send if you are not a math kid?

Cawaiigirl and all,

The RSI application is VERY liberal. You can put what you want, however you want. Format is yours to decide. Present yourself to the committee and if they like you, they'll choose you (don't feel bad if they can't take you though, 95% of the time they can't...)

And I don't know about the AMC score for the non-math kids. I was bio last year, with a fairly heavy math focus on my app (I have a few regional math awards), and I didn't tell them about a 123.

Well, anything above a 100 gets you into AIME, which is the top ~1% nationwide.

cawaiigirl,

non-calc bc person right here. I'm not even in calc AB, lol.

I honestly don't think you're in the wrong if you have a score of 130+ on the AMC. Yeah, a 140 is better, but I doubt it will count for much more than a 130+. Even for a math person.

Some math people have had a 126.5 and a 12 on the AIME....

When is the AIME this year?

Sometime in Feb. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much. You can find it off their website.

it says March 7

Too late for RSI admissions.

Whoops, sorry. I was thinking about AMC. Ya, March sounds right.

just out of curiosity, what's considered a good score for the aime?

6+...? I really don't know. Looks like the AMC 12A is January 31. Does anybody know when scores come out so you can report them?

You can check it right away, but I think official scores come out like 2 weeks later. I'm not sure though.

I don't know what's good for a math kid, but I'm shooting for 9+ this year.
