Research Science Institute 2006

9+? Hah, I'll feel good if I qualify for the AIME.

^ agreed.....

Just remember, getting into RSI is harder than getting into Ivies/MIT/Caltech/Stanford/etc.

i don't know if i'll agree with that statement, being an RSI alumni and and getting outright rejected by H.

uhh static, that statement is definitely true. Statistically, if u compare the acceptance rates at RSI versus Ivies/MIT/Caltech/Stanford, it's definitely lower. On an individual case by case basis, sure, there are plenty of Rickoids who don't get into Harvard, but that doesn't mean that it's easier to get into RSI than Harvard.

Yeah, besides, RSI is more Math/Science oriented, so it would be easier to get into MIT/Caltech than Harvard for a rickoid I would believe. Besides, the applicant pool for RSI is very self-selective.

A bit late on the AMC/AIME stuff:

For what it's worth, I believe I had a 92 on the AMC-10 when I applied. And I'm a math kid. (Insert standard feel-better remarks about "contest math != real math" here.) Contest math is one way to show math aptitude, and can help you, but there's no point worrying about the scores you already have.

I really hope that "Contest math != real math" holds true. Throughout my life I've never succeeded at math competition(save a few times). In fact, I had no motivation to train myself. I'd much rather study the sciences, and study math like calculus that helps me model the world around me. Maybe its just me, but sometimes staring at my AOPS books, I just get the feeling that this cyclic quadrilateral isn't helping me.

Of course, I never broke the "100" mark on AMC 12, so I can't really talk.

So, in past years, have the RSI applications come out exactly on December 1st, or some other random day in December?

What a 92 on the AMC -10????

Man, my 12 is right around there.....

I'm applying for Math BTW...

Random day in decemeber.

early, mid, late, all over?

I've heard that if you knew about RSI more than a week before the deadline, you won't get in. How true is that?

lol, thats pretty silly.

i knew about rsi for 2 years before i applied.

Ok. Here is an indicator of when the apps comes out: when in one single day, this thread increases like 5 pages or u have the annoying CC email notifier that tells u my email when soemothing new is added to the thread.

TO knowing about RSI, if that is so true, why would RSI alumnas open this thread like 2 months before applications even come out? so that they cant bring in future rickoids?

that's a good question, honestly i don't know why this thread exists...

For alumni to answer questions! I know I've received a ton of help on here.

But really, when do apps come out?

I cant see them rejecting people who really enjoy research cuz their applications are turned in early, but it also makes me think, dont a lot of the best students turn it in near the deadline just because procrastination throughout high school has taught you how to do the best work in the least amount of time. So if you master HS, you mmaster procrastination, so you master doing the application in like a day. speaking of which im not exactly doing my homework now.

zogoto: Random day in decemeber.

Now, future applicants, let's read.
Seriously, will a week or two when the application comes out really make that much of a difference? If anything, I think it would make your application worse.

Actually, I'm pretty chill....

I was being a little too into it, but franken put the reality back in...

Also, I'm listening to Tom Petty's Free Fallin'
