Residence Assignments

I don't know anything about my building but I'm at 575 Comm Ave room 302. :) I'm psyched cause we have a private bathroom but we have to eat in the Towers or Shelton dining halls.

You don't HAVE to eat at those dining halls--you can go to any one you want (I'd recommend walking a block over to Warren in lieu of those two, personally). You just can't swipe in for Late Night anywhere except for Towers.

Ah, interesting. Did you live there at any point? (Just to get a better perspective of the building, I haven't found any good pictures of it inside or out.)

575 Comm Ave is the HoJo (it was a Howard Johnsons not too long ago...BU bought it and made it a dorm...until last year, you could still see the imprint of the HoJo logo on the building). I've never been in a room--I've just been in the study lounge downstairs and the one upstairs. I've heard that the rooms aren't that impressive, but no major complaints.

http://cs-pub.bu.edu/misc/tour/hojo.gif (before it was a dorm)

Oh, a note about the pictures on the backdoor: they haven't been updated in god knows how long. For instance, the "game room" in Warren does not have actual video games, as depicted in a picture (it was there during my orientation, I think...but not when I moved in). I can't vouch for how representative the room pictures are, but they should give you an idea.

Hey, thanks for that. :) I had only been able to find 3 or 4 fuzzy photos. I appreciate it.

I haven't gotten my residence assignment yet and I turned my deposit in at the beginning of April. Is that odd?

Anyway, my first choice was Warren because I'm in COM and I wanted the convenience of its location. But it looks like Warren rooms are being filled up, so I'm beginning to accept the fact that I'm not being placed in there.

So then, I've been hearing a few things. I'll either be in a hotel room for the first semester or I'll get a brownstone. I mean, either way they're probably both far from my building, so I'd want the latter option.

Anyone know anything for sure about late assignments? I want to call, but the site said they're assigning through early August, so I can't call and complain.

Thanks a bunch!

This is the first time they've ever posted residence assignments online, so no one is going to be able to say anything about why yours wasn't posted yet or why.

I doubt that this means you're going to be placed in a brownstone. It's highly unlikely that any given freshman will be in a brownstone (possible, but unlikely in general). If you are, however, you may still be very close to COM if it's a Bay State Brownstone.

I also doubt that you'll be placed in a hotel, although they do do that every year. They have been putting some of the "overflow" into the HoCo (Hotel Commonwealth), which is in Kenmore--only a block away from COM. I think that they may have put people in the Holiday Inn last year, however, which is rather far.

It is more likely that you'll be on West Campus if you don't end up in Warren.

Regarding Hotels:
The Hotel Commonwealth is a new luxury boutique hotel right on campus on Comm Ave. near Barnes & Nobles. Some students ended up there first semester last year but they were all on a floor togther, had maid service, and all of that. It seemed they hooked into a specific dining hall and socilaized there. While its hardly ideal I understand that many other Freshman visit you there since there are no RAs and the rooms are beautiful with private baths. So worst case scenario if you are one of the small number that end up there,in a $300.00 plus hotel room with a roomate and queen beds...well it could be worse.

Hey Chrisso620--I'm on your floor...LOL...my roommate was the one who let me know it was all girs!

Hey! Yeah I remember we talked a while ago about the COM floor! Which room are you in? I'm in 1403. Whooo COM floor!

Uhhh... grins sheepishly

So, for some reason I can't see my residence assignment anymore from my student link. (Actually, the reason is that my current computer is a worthless piece of crap.)

My room is either 1401 or 1410. If it's 1401 then I think you might be right next door...wow go CC for connecting people!

I dont think its 1401, cuz this girl from facebook has 1401, its a single. But either way we're floor-mates! lol. Do you have a roomate? I found mine and emailed her a few times. She seems pretty cool.

Yeah, it's 1410C then. Alrighty then, my roommate is really nice too.
I finally got a facebook but I"m still trying to work it out (not a veteran blogger/all that kinds of stuff.)

Awesome! You gotta facebook me when its done. I'm so excited to go. I would leave tomorrow if I could lol. I wanna make a facebook group for our floor! I hope there are cool people :)

I added you on facebook, LOL. I'm Ana.
Wow, it's a small world.

OMG--your birthday is two days b4 mine.

lol...thats cool! I made a facebook group for our floor, and I sent you an invitation. I just started it...I'm going to be really embarassed if people don't join lol.

I got put into Clafin Hall--West Campus, anyone from Warren wanna trade?

Why don't you want to stay on West? I know its far and everything but people on West always say they love it, its got the best dining hall, and a cute campusy feel. AND its close to the fitrec. If you REALLY want to trade, then good luck. But I think you'd like it if you just stayed there.

On my student link housing page, it says that my residence assignment is 203 Bay State Road which I'm assuming are Brownstones (the nice dorms) but my mailing address is at 140 Bay State Road, does that mean I'm staying in a Brownstone but my mailbox is in Towers or am I in Towers :-/ ? It says that it's a specialty house and that my 3 roommates should all be in the same school which is SMG.
