Hello… What are the thoughts about the linen options that recently came in mail. Has anyone priced items individually at target and BB&B? I know some may want their own patterns but wondering if anyone has info on quality. Also… I have read previously that getting a rug from a PSU vendor was the way to go… Is this that vendor or is there another one for just carpets. The info in mail doesn’t say anything about delivering rug to room… D starting summer session so I guess I gotta get on this.
I have the same question, is it worth it to buy the “Complete campus value pack”? How is the quality?
I had heard the quality was low and the price high for the linens in that mailer. I got the Twin XL sheets at BBB for my son two years ago and plan to do the same for my daughter this year (with the coupons). His are still in good shape after two years. Didn’t get the very cheapest, but I know they were not much $$.
Got my son’s rug at Lowes or HD for about $50. Also bought a small area rug for the “entry” to catch some of the dirt. The rug was disposed of after freshman year. I will probably buy a more interesting/cuter rug for my daughter. Son was fine with gray.
Yep, I heard that the quality was cheap. Plus we wanted more choices.
We bought our own. Bought a mattress cover, a foam topper, a quilted cover for all of that, sheets, winter blanket and comforter. He says his bed at school is more comfortable than the one at home. BB&B and KOHL’S had everything we needed. You can order everything and pick it up at State College BB&B and at Kohl’s, too. We bought our own carpet and rug pad. The carpet was cheap - less than $50.
One point that I would like to mention. If you only plan to stay in the dorms for a year you may want to go with the package. Beds off campus maybe a different size and you may have to buy new linens for the next bed. Luckily, we will not need to, but when hunting for off campus places to live, most beds were full or queen. Just something to keep in mind.
We bought our own (as you know ) and it was not cheap at BBB, but we bought EVERYTHING we needed (with a few minor things outstanding). So it adds up. We also bought a foam mattress topper. The sheets and comforter were labeled as twin/twin XL so I think they will fit either size bed - but if you go to a bigger bed next year they may not fit. My D will be moving into the rental house we own in State College next year, so we know she will be ok - but it is something to think about. I don’t have an answer for you - just that we bought our own and when adding it up it was a bit of sticker shock. But then again, what in this process isn’t!? We are still looking for a rug too…
The residence hall linens are not your best choice as the price is high and the quality is awful. Speaking practically, what they need is a mattress cover, one or two bottom sheets, and a comforter. You can often find these things in the XL twin at BBB or Walmart on sale; Ross, TJ Maxx, etc…the savings requires living with weird colors, but oh well.
They wont wash their linens. They may not even change them. They will wear them out and at the end of a year, you rather burn them than launder
If you are close to State College, trash to treasure is May 30 and hundreds of $10 rugs will be there. Hundreds.
As much as College Confidential can drive me nuts (well, the postings by some extremists), it can be so darn helpful as well!! The @jlhpsu acceptance thread and the posts here from @PERplexD, @Cowman, @greenbutton and (the MVP of CC’s PSU Class of 2019 threads) @jlhpsu are enormously beneficial. Thanks all!
My dd isn’t attending PSU until fall, but from what I am seeing here, the dorm beds are twin XL, is that right?
Yep
I’m very happy with the quality we received from the Residence Hall Linens mailing. Then again, I’m glad any time I can save some time and the price was right. I had my son to put everything back in the box the way it arrived so (hopefully) we’ll have less to pack for move in. Does anyone recommend a foam mattress topper??
Yep
