We received a mailing from PSU containing a catalog, of sorts, offering a “Complete Campus Value Pak” for $209. It contains 24 items including 2 changes of linens, bath towels, 2 underbed storage solutions and other stuff like that. Is this a good deal?
One thing that caught my eye the was a statement that there is “some” specially sized bedding around the campus. Apparently, these “Paks” would contain sheets that fit. There are also two other “Paks” - Comfort Pak and Student Starter Pak - each for a lower cost. Any ideas, experiences or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.
@ww4397, we received the same mailing today. Taking a look at the Complete Campus Value Pak, and comparing it to what I’ve already purchased from JCP and Wayfair:
a reversible comforter set
2 sheet sets
mattress topper
2 towel sets from JCP and Wayfair, all for about $200.00.
So, for me, I don’t see it as a great deal, even without the purchase of the laundry bag, underbed storage and caddy. The trunk is definitely overpriced. You can shop for sales, and come close or even beat the prices offered by OCM.
I also purchased x-twin sheet from JCP for my S when he went to college, and for my D when she spent a week at a college last summer, and they fit the dorm mattresses perfectly.
We have Mother’s Day and Memorial Day coming up…great sales opportunities! Good luck.
@ww4397, I included the cost of the two non-college items that I ordered. The total was $150 for the college items, all sales items. So, comparing this to the OCM price, I saved $59.00. By the way, JCP is having a Black Friday sale that ends tomorrow.
I don’t like the quality in the Campus Pak.
You can make your own package from BB&B, use a 20% coupon and get a better price. If there is a BB&B store near your college, you can order it and have it all waiting for you to pick up. You should get a 20% off entire purchase in Aug., but if you don’t you can save up the coupons and use them all. They usually don’t care if they are expired.
Thanks for the quick replies, guys. Great ideas on the sales.
Does anyone know how prevalent the non-standard bedding is across the campus? That is the element of doubt that is lingering with me. Is it contained to just one dorm area (for example, is all non-standard bedding in West Halls) or more widespread? As for the amount, is it just, say, 1% of the total PSU bedding or much more?
If you notice from the brochure, all the paks that are offered have one size bedding, extra long twin. So, I believe that the standard size mattress is XL twin in the majority, if not all the dorms. Maybe a bigger size in the apartments.
All schools send out this flyer … BB&B sales will be cheaper. All the dorm beds are xl twins. Feel confident in skipping this!
The quality of these sales generally isn’t that great and if you have a girl, the selection isn’t often enough for them
You can do better at a BBB sale or even target closer to move in times. Definitely get twin XL, that is the standard dorm size.
