Don't worry about Zahm's reputation, they aren't any worse than any other dorm. They just like everybody to think they are! They foster their noteriety and "us against the rest of the world" mentality and as a result are a pretty close-knit group with a lot of traditions.

ww007--according to our student, no it does not stay hot that long! You will want to purchase a fan(s) just to be on the safe side. I think our son has indicated that by about mid-Sept it begins to cool down. It is really not that bad, you will be fine!

Anyone else in Dillon?

Does anyone know anything about Howard? I hear it's pretty small, but that's all I know....thanks :]

Justbumming- Walsh does indeed have the best location on campus. :) The rooms can be a bit small freshman year (4th floor rooms are a bit bigger), but you are allowed to loft and we have fairly high ceilings, so take advantage of that. Our rector, Sr. Janet is a bit strict and not a very warm and fuzzy sort of person, but if you are in charge of a club or activity, shes really willing to help you out with organizing and dorm funds. We also have the best basement I've seen in any of the dorms. We have a lot more 24 hour space than most of the other dorms, including 2 lounges with TVs, one room without, and a kitchen. We also have 2 study rooms and workout facilities. There are also some unique room setups in Walsh, including some with private bathrooms. Also, most rooms have closets. What floor are you on?

does anyone know anything about Lewis? i know the location isn't so great, and it's not as old as some of the others, but does it still have some spirit? is it's distace from other dorms/places a problem? how are the rooms? basically anything anyone knows....

kevdude, if you could, please tell me how i won the lottery? im still a bit unclear

If any of you Zahmbies have questions feel free to PM me.

With that said, welcome to the house. Only 146 days until the bun run.

Because you get the distinct honor of being the object of admiration for the rest of campus, an Alumni Hall Dawg.

House!
(without this note, my message would be too short)

Fourth floor!!!! Yayy I'm in 407 our room looks big on the floor plans. We overlook the main quad and have a good view of the golden dome judging by where our room is on the floor plan. Ours looks even bigger than the rest on the fourth floor because it sticks out into a big dorm window. It's only a double so I doubt it has a bathroom, but is there only one bathroom for the entire floor like the floorplan suggests?

Walsh Hall | Floor Plans | 4th Floor

Thank you so much for that information, it's really valuable for lofting info and stuff. So the rector being really strict... does that mean "partying" isn't too big in Walsh? I imagine fourth floor is a bit more secluded, and I wonder if the RA is cool too... Thanks so much again that really helped :)

yeah...anyone know anything about howard??

My son is also in Knott Hall. Anyone know anything about this dorm you can tell me?

Sue

Yes, they are Knott men.

Very funny. We know, because you are answering moms, that you are Knott serious. Any truthful responses now?

Suesam- my son is in Knott also. I only kow what I read on their webpage. Where are you coming to ND from?

pizzahut-
Believe you me, since I am a mom paying this outrageous tuition I am very serious and you are KNOTT funny. Ha! Come on throw me a bone, tell me something! Like.....this is a dorm that takes their studying very seriously and there is NO partying!
My son tells me NOTHING.

TymeflysBy-We are from Iowa. I am more excited about this dorm thing than he is. He drives me nuts! Where are you from?

Sue

There are no guy dorms that takes their studying very seriously or where there are no parties. Your son doesn't want to talk to you about it because he doesn't want to have a conversation with his mother about how easy he heard it was to get beer into his room and how lenient the RAs can be.

Hey kevdude-read that you will be in Ireland this fall for study abroad. Best of luck to you while you are there and hope you enjoy it! One of son's roommates will be in Shanghai, China this fall for study abroad. It all sounds like much fun and adventure-keep in touch on this forum to let us know how it is going. I don't think I have read too much on this forum about study abroad, esp a first-hand experience. Can't convince son to try it--but his major just doesn't allow too much leniency except for study abroad in summer. Again, good luck!

PS--sorry to hijack the thread everyone!

kevdude_
No need to be so blunt and cruel. Ok. How about something else? Anything a mother might want to hear?
Anything? Male bonding? Fun? Supportive?
