I just got the same message, too, and I just sent it. I hope it doesn’t make a difference!!! Still, it is classifying us as “out of state students.” I’m not sure if that means anything but…hm…

Haha yeah I walked in to my mom’s office talking really fast and telling her I needed her drivers license and registration and voting registration. She was really confused!

I really hope it doesn’t alter their decision, though. I’m going to be so mad at myself if the reason I don’t get in is because I forgot to fill out a stupid form.

When I applied, I remember having to fill out the residency form as well.

It’s standard practice, I believe. They classify you as out-of-state and make you prove you are in-state, as a way of cutting down on those people that claim Florida residency just because they have family here or something.

It’s really simple to fill out though. Takes like 5 minutes. Unless the form changed, of course.

When you apply for admission online, you will be prompted to complete the residency affidavit. You do not have to submit the affidavit at the same time as the application; however, it must be completed and submitted prior to the start of classes. Since each affidavit is individually reviewed, it is in your best interest to submit the affidavit as soon as possible. Additional documentation may be required to prove your claim of Florida residency for tuition purposes, so you want to make sure that you have enough time to submit the required items prior to the deadline.

So, hopefully we’re okay since we still applied before the start of classes. I just hope it wasn’t a deciding factor or something. I asked my friend who also lives in Florida and she said hers says she’s a Florida Resident so I guess we missed it somehow…

Again, this isn’t going to impact your decision. You’re already either in or not.

This form is simply verification that you really do qualify for the in-state tuition rate. You would be surprised how many people try to claim residency when they don’t meet the requirements. This form is simply FSU’s way of combating that.

Don’t freak out about it. Like I said above, it only takes like 5 minutes to fill out. And you don’t even have to fill it out until June (for Summer) or August (for Fall) if you don’t want to (keeping in mind of course that is a terrible idea). Just make sure to fill it out or you’re going to get a very unpleasant case of sticker shock when it comes time to pay for FSU at the start of Summer or Fall classes.

The difference between in-state and out of state tuition and fees is a good amount. It’s nearly $16,000 when everything is added up.
