dandahamman, I've lived in O-House the past two years, and it's great! It's a little tough to get placed there if you didn't apply very early. I think I put in a deposit in December when I applied, maybe early January... If you have a roommate in mind, and he or she applied earlier, you both could list each other as roommates and both indicate O-House as top choice. This may give you a slightly better chance. To your second question, I don't think you can live in Myers if your roommate is not in Honors. There are so many Honors students who want to live in Myers, so it would be very difficult.

Neddy, I believe that Russell rooms come with beds already lofted. I think Creswell might also, but check out www.uga.edu/housing to be sure. I don't think Brumby has beds already lofted as of yet, but they are always changing things over summers, so you never know!

Creswell has air conditioning now?! No fair! My college boyfriend lived in Myers -- it's quieter than the high-rises and at that time, was largely upperclassmen. (There was no Honors housing then, either.) Russell used to be the freshman guys' dorm. There's a reason all the furniture was changed out! Women visited at their own (considerable) risk.

I believe they will at least try to give you your second or third choice! If you're really unhappy with where you are assigned, you can file for a room change, and while this might cause a little more anxiety in the beginning of the school year, it is an option.

I can't believe I'm finally answering these questions, not asking them!

So I just finished my freshman year and lived at Creswell, and let me tell you, I was really surprised that it was actually quite pleasant considering all the things I heard about Creswell before I moved in (and Creswell was my second choice). They say that Russell is 'nicer' than Creswell, but I disagree. They're pretty much the same. Here's why I think you should choose Creswell over Russell (and Brumby probably, but I've never been in Brumby)

You get to control your own heat and AC. Believe me, that's a HUGE plus. While everybody's complaining that they're keeping the heat on when it's hot, you'll be able to control it yourself.

You're at the bottom of the hill. I couldn't imagine having to walk up the hill to Russell and Brumby.

You're closer to food (Bolton). All you gotta do is walk outside and down a few stairs, and you're at Bolton!

You're at a good walking distance to the science area, SLC/Tate area, journalism area, and very southern part of north campus (Park, Joe Brown, LeConte buildings). Being at Russell may only add just a few minutes, but a few minutes saved are precious when you decide you want to get up at 9:15 for your 9:30 class.

For my year there, the firealarms weren't bad. We only had one ill-timed alarm (2:30 in the morning). If you're lucky, you'll have friends in other dorms. You can go hang out with them for an hour then go back. If it's late at night, and it's cold outside, find someone with a car and stay in there.

This doesn't really prove that Creswell's better, but...If you don't feel like walking, East/West and Russell Hall busses stop by at the Bolton busstop, so you don't have to go up the Russell hill to the other busstop. If you need Ag Hill, you can walk to O-House (haha, I prefer doing that than going up the hill, even though it's a longer walk...it's still not uphill). Those are the only three busses that go by those dorms.

When I called the UGA Undergraduate Office, they told me they would tell people in late May because I didn't know which five parking spaces to select; however, this was a freshman UGA student speaking to me, so he could definitely be wrong. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, unless you can't wait and want to call UGA in their weekday hours.

What I am going to assume is that they tell you your dorm assignment in late May, and then tell you your room number and other information in mid-July....
