Resident Parking for Clark Kerr

Hey guys,

So, as a freshmen with a desire to bring a car to Cal (please waive judgement, I have reasons that I want to get around the bay area). I was wondering how one would go about getting a parking permit just for the parking lots at CKC.

I know they are difficult to get but was curious if any previous residents had any advise. Would I be best off looking at the storage lot? Is the storage lot safe? Covered?

Thanks

JC

I am also interested on knowing this.

You should look at the storage lot. It’s safe, but it’s not covered.

If you want covered parking, you can always find some for an average of $100/mo.

There’s really no reason to bring a car to Cal. Public transit is excellent and gets you between many places in the Bay Area. I use a bicycle to cover the rest – eg. for situations where public transit suck.

Parking is just such a nightmare that even if you have a car, most of the time, you won’t be able to use it unless you drive far away from Berkeley. I have a few friends with cars, and they will walk unless it’s more than two miles.

Even for Clark?

I’m not planning on driving very many places in berkeley. But, I know that I will be making a few trips up north from there. I have friends and family in the area. Also, it would be nice to make the trips home by car.

My question really was. I know that Clark Kerr has a parking lot, and that the parking lot is rather large. So, is it easier, by any means, for CKC residents to get just RH parking in CKC

My recollection is that you might get lucky. Not something that is broadcast, but ask. And have some decent reason.

I am also interested in this. I looked into it a residential hall permit for the year is $1165 annually.

Also called city of Berkeley, they said only permanent residents qualify for a permit. Dorm housing is considered temporary.

Any cheaper or free options, someone can share with us?

Is there a free or cheaper option I am not seeing

There’s resident parking at Clark, but it is limited. (it is like 1100 a year) My friend parks his car in the downtown apartment community(library garden, i believe for 1200 a year).
