I am signing up for Resnet tier 1 for the dorm, but i'm still quite unsure what this really means.
Will I be able to use wireless in the dorm room?
Where in the campus will I be free to use wireless service?
How good is the wireless system in UT?

All students get 250 MB/week of free wireless bandwith. By purchasing Resent, you add that much more bandwith onto your weekly cap. Wireless access is available everywhere on campus, and I mean everywhere. Basements, 14th floor, your room, the cafeteria- it’s blanketed and fast just about everywhere. If you’re staying in a dorm, then you also have the option of activating your ethernet port for free through the resnet page.

Resnet Tier 1 is the most basic Resnet subscription. You get 5 GB of bandwidth and I found that enough for me. During finals, you get free extra bandwidth. I forgot how much exactly, but I believe it’s 5 GB worth of extra bandwidth. So, including the 2.5 GB of bandwidth from the public network, you have a total of 5.5 GB of bandwidth available to you every week. On Tier 1, as long as you don’t watch a ton of videos or video chat a lot, you should be fine on not going over your bandwidth for the week. But, if you do go over, you can still access the Internet. It’s just going to be a lot slower. Your bandwidth refreshes every week and you can check how much you’re using at this link: https://management.pna.utexas.edu/server/graph.cgi?
