Hey guys! I am seriously considering self-studying for AP English Lit. They do offer the class in my school, but I opted not to take it.

I was wondering if there are any good resources online or even review books that people who have taken the exam can recommend?

Thanks!

Its called The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and it works for every single thematic analysis prompt you can imagine. You’re a fool if you don’t read it.

Basically just read a wide variety of books and poetry. Make sure you can really analyze how literary elements create deeper meaning. And make sure you know 3 or 4 books really well for the open question.

Get your hands on as much MC as possible, you’ll want to practice.

Like, I recommend Barron’s, because that’s the book our teacher gave us to review with (not that I took a whole lot of advantage, heh).

Use sparknotes for book analysis to figure out what you should look for and use Barron’s, of course. Do tons of MC questions and analyze poems to learn your poetry terms and whatnot.

Have you taken AP English Language and Composition? If you have, then all you need to do is go over some poetry terms, and then read sparknotes for like 6 novels and know the plot well enough to use them in an essay. Otherwise, you’ll probably want to have some practice with the multiple choice, which I suppose you could get a book for…

Thank you everyone! I feel more confident now. :)
