Hi, I posted this before, but I finally got my first semester grades. I'm a freshman at University of Michigan - AA.

Orgo 1 - B-
Orgo 1 Lab - B
Multivariable Calc - B
Advanced French - A-
Honors Greek Lit - A-

Overall GPA - 3.23

How much is this going to hurt me in the future for application to the very top med schools, and aside from raising my grades 2nd sem and doing well on the mcat, what can I do to recover from this semester? Do I get any leeway b/c it's first semester freshman year?

you're taking orgo as a freshman? wow. as to you're question, i think your first semester isn't too bad. most people see this kinda drop their first term at a university (especially people taking orgo and calc!!). Just know that you need to have a higher gpa to make it into med school. One thing you can do is to get an A in orgo II to make up for the B-. other than that just work hard.

Orgo isn't actually very difficult at michigan. Something like 70% of all students get a b- or higher. The problem is that all the material builds on itself, so if you miss one chapter, regardless of how well you learn the rest, you are screwed. That's what happened to me.
