There is some borderline colleges im applying to that don’t require a resume, but despite that appear it would be nice to do.
Can anyone give me any ideas on how to design my resume?
Thanks

I've organized some community service, of a decent scale. Would I count that under FBLA, or put it under community service?

Take a look at "Acing the College Application" by Michelle Hernandez. She strongly recommends not using a resume, but instead attaching an expanded version of the activity-list in the same format as what is requested on the application form. The book is pretty good, and explains the application process by relating it to the application form itself.

dufus- do you mean on the online app the "extra space/explanation"? the space that the regular table gives doesnt really suffice.

From what I've been told by counselors and read in books, they're not a good idea unless you're getting into fine arts or another field where you need to show experience or a portfolio.

When I asked at Smith about including the volunteer one I already have made up because I often have to submit it for new volunteer positions, I was told "No one your age should have a resum

Yes, the attachment is in the same format as the box on the application with the titles "activity", "hours/week", "weeks/years", "years participated", and "positions held". By making it an attachment, there is a lot of room for explanations of the activities and so on.

Hernadez's view is that high schoolers should not have a resume. The main thing to me is that the activity-list that she suggests is easier to read for the adcoms. Take a look at her book.

another resume link fyi:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=74376

note that 2 other resume threads are also linked in thread 74376, so plenty of discussion.

The reason I want to attach one, is because I have really good ec's, but the college app for the school doesn't even have a spot to list them. It just says to attach a seperate sheet if necessary. If anyone is willing to look at my resume, just PM me with your AIM s/n, or just post it. And I will send you the file.

Thanks for helping.

kinglin-- check out the latter posts on this thread....discussion of ways to fit in resume-like material into the common application.
