Resume

How do I make a resume for college admission, not a job? I went searching for it on the Internet, and they don’t seem the right format to me because they are for graduate schools and careers. Does the resume help the teachers understand me more, or is it too “much” for them? Should I make it for college admission? How do I use it? Do I use it as an addition to ECs chart? Should I describe the activites briefly in one-two sentences?

Good question. HOW DO I DO THIS!?!

it doest have to be all proper. i just sent my resume in a list like form. it doesnt really matter how you present it.

If I remember correctly, Columbia tells you how they want your resume to be formatted, so you can just use their way for all your applications.

Yeah, I would restate everything from the application (including awards, summer activities, clubs, volunteerwork, etc) in my resume.

where does columbia tell you on there site, if you remember. I couldn't find it.

Please point it out I could not find it at the site also!

Thanks

Sorry guys, I have no clue. All I know is that my sister used it three years ago...

Do you double space? Are the essays also double space? ...well i dont think you have a choice if you apply common app online but if u were to type it and send it in paper

I wouldn't double space neither on a resume nor on essays.

so anybody found the link to columbias website page?

In "Acing the College Application", Michelle Hernadez is very opposed to resumes. She recommends using an attached activity-list that is in the same format as the activity chart on the application itself. I think it works pretty well. There are hints and examples in the book.

For those who are doing their apps online, how do you use the additional information part....do u just start typing the rest of your ecs (would u relist those u already listed in the ecs section?), and then skipped a line and add whatever else? ...speaking of which, what else should be in the additional info part...i know that's different for everyone, but in general...

Can't you just put all of that in the "additional information" section?

In terms of format, mailing it means that you know what it looks like when they look at it, and you don't have to worry about it being lost. People in recent threads have really been for doing everything online. The reason they want you to apply online is that it saves them money for keypunching. I really can not imagine anyone's admissions decision being negatively impacted by applying through the mail.

I am giving resumes to my teachers before they write recs (they asked).

Should I do it like this:

Freshman Year
Club A
Club B
Club C
Club D (Treasurer)

Sophomore Year
Club B
Club C (Historian)
Club D (President)

Junior Year
Club C (VP)
Club D (President)

Senior Year
Club C (Pres)
Club D (Pres)

OR like this:

Club A (9)
Club B (9,10)
Club C (9, 10, 11, 12), Historian (10), Vice President (11), President (12)
Club D (9, 10, 11, 12), Treasurer (9), President (10,11,12)

Oh, no! So listing them and explaining them isn't a smart move?

so lets get to a consensus should we send a resumer or not?

If sending a resume it is better to apply online or offile?

i wouldn't send a resum

It probably isn't a good idea. All the info is covered in the apps anyways.

srry when i said resume i meant a list of ur ecs that could not fit in the app since there's only a limited space there....i mean, especially if ur applying online where u can't type anymore than they let u, it's hard to list everything u want to be listed regarding ur ecs....i meant maybe just a list of ecs that u want the admissions committee to take into account and a brief...BRIEF description of the ecs that may need explaining (i.e. a personal project u did...i doubt the committee would know what a project is just by its title)
