retake 2200?

i took the january SAT and got a 2200: 730 CR, 760 M, 710 W. i know this is a pretty good score, but i know if i actually forced myself to do a lot of rediculous practice tests i could improve. i'm applying to places like stanford, dartmouth, rice, duke, princeton, and MIT. i really don't want to take them again, but i'm not quite at the score-level that's outstanding. however, i have really good grades, 800s on math II and chem sat IIs, and 5s on chem and latin APs.
SO-- should i do a retake?? is it really worth it?

yes you should you wana atleast get a 2300 on the sat or consider yourself not in and what did u get on the sat II for biology

i didn't take bio

You don't need to re-take. Sorry.

2200 is fine if your GPA and SAT IIs and APs are good. You don't need a 2300+ to get in.

it only helps if your going to go to harvard and you have heard of affirmative action, which only helps african americans who get poor grades get in

but im a regular white person so it wont help me so i gotta get good grades :(

yep me too, regular white girl
stanford's my first choice at this point, and i'm also an athlete hoping to get some sort of pull from the coach, so i'm hoping i may be ok (as ok as you can be in high-caliber applicant pools) if my sat scores are one of the weakest points of my app. my essay's going to have to be amazing though :/

good luck with stamford you seem like the type for stamford :)

"yes you should you wana atleast get a 2300 on the sat or consider yourself not in"

Um, reality check? You do NOT need a 2300 to get in, and affirmative action has nothing to do with this.

If you have a 2200, I think your time is better spent on other things. If nothing else, study something that's actually worthwhile instead.

dude, a 2200 is FINE. people dont understand that the difference between a 2200 and a 2300 is probably about 5 questions...lucky for you, colleges know this

dude they dont you gotta do the best you can

I wouldn't bother reatking it . You should work on other parts of your application(essays etc).

yeah that was my reasoning; i'm trying to start a peer tutoring group at my school, i'm in training for crew and with all the other app stuff the last thing i want to do is practice writing crappy essays in 25 min. I just didn't know if the score would maybe hurt me at all since i only took the SATs once.

sean123- thank you so much, seeming like the stanford type is like the ultimate compliment for me :)

jsullivan, you don't NEED to retake. but if you feel like you can do better, then go ahead

i could do better if i really had the time to study and practice a whole lot. but what i think would end up happening is i sort of study the week before (which is what happened the first time) and i'd do the same or worse, or if i'm lucky like 10 pts. better

If you think you can go up 50+ composite points, I'd say retake. The way the bellcurve works is that 50 points at this level is a significantly greater achievement than the difference between an 1800 and a 1900.

...Are you kidding? 50 composite points is like three questions! Heck, if the OP even got one more question right in math his score could've gone up 20-30 points. A 50 point composite increase is like nothing.

To the OP, your score is fine. Most schools won't even consider the writing portion, so your 1490 M+V score is fine. No one's going to reject you because they think a 1490 is too low. Spend your time on better things rather than studying for a retake that won't do you much good.

i gota 2200 first try junior yr and im not gonna retake it - so take w/e u want from that...

No. Your SAT score just qualifies you for further consideration. Unless the rest of your application is weak, there is no reason to retake a 2200. As long as your score is good enough to get you in the door (and it is), retaking it would be a waste of time and money. Admissions officers will see that you retook a 2200 and think of you as an overly worried perfectionist.

If any schools you are applying to offer scholarships, retaking a 2200 is not a bad idea. this obviously does not apply to the ivies, but you know there are going to be people out there with near perfect scores. But only do it if you are confident.
