Retake a 2200??

For top schools, should I retake? I think I should but some say it isn't really worth it. =/

Subsections:

Writing: 780 (10 essay, 78mc)
Critical Reading: 670
Math: 750

Depends. Was this your first time to take? Are you caucasian or asian? By "top school," are you talking about the colleges in the top 10-15 of the USNWR rankings? If yes to all of the above, then you should think about retaking. The 1420 on M+CR is a bit low.

On the other hand, if you've taken the test a couple of times already, are a minority applicant, and are not applying to the colleges topping USNWR's list, then I probably wouldnt retake.

Ok. That signifies a retake.

This was my first time, I'm asian, and yes I'm planning to apply to the top 10-15 schools.

What score should I aim for though?
2300?

our scores r the exact same except for reading haha

but i am defintely NOT retaking lol. i dont plan to apply to all ivys (i dont like ivys much) but i think my score fits in the range for enough good schools for me

what does "several times" mean? i've heard that anything over two times is bad... ? not to hijack your thread but does anybody know about this? And is it bad if your scores go down overall but your score goes up in one section your third time?

You got 2200 and still plan to retake ??? I think 2200 is good, but do colleges look at your score at each section or just the total ?

TO answer your question:

Usually, taking the SAT more than THREE times is bad. If your scores drop (but not by too much) a 2nd time, colleges will forgive you a bit. It won't really hurt you. However, don't just randomly take it for fun. It's not a game. lol

Well, the reason I want to retake it to raise my reading to 720+ and 800 math and writing if possible

i have a suggestion. why don't you use that score to apply for ED. if you are done then enjoy your leisure time.
if you are not successful in the ED, retake the SAT and apply to RD.

^^great suggestion drac - also I would recommend getting a study guide or two - Rocket Review and the one put out by the College Board (the "blue book")

can you apply to more than one school ED

SilverDragon795 , are you an international applicant or American Asian?
the situation can be different,.,

I'm an asian american, but I live in NJ. =/

I have kind of a random situation here, but maybe it will help. I took the SAT in March, and scored 780cr/680m/740w with 10 essay (2200).

I retook it in May for the sole purpose of boosting the math: 800cr/780m/780w with 11 essay (2360).

So you never know! As long as you're willing to go into it seriously (and I'm sure you are), I'd say take it a second time. Worst case scenario, you score slightly lower, which would still be a great score. Best case scenario...you are very glad you retook the test.

yes, retake. The 670 cr doesn't look to good for top schools. Esp. since you're an asian from NJ.

all these retkae threads are making me feel like i need to do one myself...
(770 CR, 720 M, 770 W + asian aiming for top school = retake?)
sadly, i havent studied for the sat since i got my scores last december :P

I'm in the same position (sort of).

M800
W740
R650 (!!!!)

Yeah, I'm definitely retaking. Seeing that most colleges take the highest score from each section, I don't think retaking can hurt.
