Retake a 790

I know that the title of this thread sounds outrageous and epitomizes the overachieving CCer. However, I got a 790 on Math 2 and am pretty upset about it, when everyone else on this site got 800's and an 800 is only the 89th percentile from the previous graduating class. Should I sit down next fall and choose to retake Math 2 again?

I’m feeling the same thing…but it might make you look a little desperate. My mom was realy happy, but I’m realy ****ed off because of it.

Are 800s REALLY looked at as that much better than 790s?

DO 1 thing

u always have additional info section on application

Write

I was 110% sure i could get 800 on the retake but i used my time and money for a better thing .

 1. i donated that money …
 2. i helped my mom/… for 3 hours rather than going for test .

Simple

By the way 790 and 800 doesn’t make a difference.

Even at, say, Harvard or MIT?

Think of it this way, a 790 is not a make or break at any college. No college (I don’t even think MIT) will think to themselves “Never mind, we were going to accept him but now that we see he has a 790 in Math II, our decision has been reversed.”

Sounds a little far-fetched, doesn’t it?

Look, if you were able to get a 790 on Math 2 and you thought you could get an 800, then by all means retake it (you’ll probably get your perfect score). It’s 20 something dollars and an hour of your time. With Math 2, due to the large number of students who get an 800, there is a difference between a 790 and an 800. When some of these colleges have their average Math 2 score at an 800, getting that 800 can be important.
