I realize this is really out of it's season, but: should I retake the ACT? I took it last year, but made the mistake of not taking the version with the writing prompt. My score was not that great either-- Composite: 30, English: 27, Math: 24, Reading: 36, Science: 34. I really think I should retake it, but I am (of course), worried about getting an even worse score than before. Oh, and I would be taking it again as a senior- is that too late?

No, it wouldn't be too late. You could probably even take it more than once during your senior year. I would take it with the writing prompt, I think some colleges will want it. Don't worry about your score dropping...think of it as having nothing to lose. You've already taken it once and gotten a very good score, which you will still have even if you drop.

You could still take the June 11th test if you pay the late fee.

Unlike the SAT which reports all scores of all tests taken to colleges, the ACT permits you to selectively suppress scores. I.E., if you do worse, the colleges don't have to see it. So you have nothing to lose by re-taking.

Thanks to all. I just registered for the June 11th test..that bit about being able to suppress the scores is something I did not know, and am very glad to have learned. (so, a special thank you for that.)

wow, if you got some math review and brought that up 5-6 pts you would be set.
