So I just received a 790 on Chem. It's a score I'm proud of, but at the same time, I made 3 mistakes that I know I could have easily corrected (one was a freaking LAB question, and the other two were questions I originally had right but I switched them to the incorrect answer due to last minute rushed thought (woohoo...). Aside from knowing that I could have easily had an 800, is there any point retaking this in October if I'm planning to apply to schools like MIT, Caltech, and Harvey Mudd?

I know, I probably sound pathetic right now, but even though it's a great score, I kind of don't like knowing that had I even gotten one of those 3 very solvable questions, I would be sitting with an 800 right now. Plus, I know that top engineering schools often get overwhelmed with 800 applicants that the 790 kind of is a step behind.

yea I got a 790 in physics… and I kinda want to retake that lol. What is worse is that I got a 780 in bio M too! WHat is up with missing 800 by like 1-2 quesitons!!!

You guys suck so much. You are just the worst test takers ever. In fact, you should take the earliest opportunity to go kill yourselves right now.

I assure you, a 790 is not “a step behind” an 800. Schools are not looking for robots. They are looking for people who have passions and interests. Instead of retaking those already great scores, you guys should focus more on other things. Don’t worry.

But yes, I do understand your frustration of not nailing that perfect score. However, all I’m saying is that it’s not worth it. Perfectionism is both a blessing and a curse.

If you retake schools will think you are preoccupied with testing and not as occupied with the things that really matter. Plus, 790 and 800 are almost exactly the same thing. One question and you would have gotten the 800. One question is not going to keep you out of the schools you want to go to!!
Congratulations on your awesome score!

got a 790 too, i feel like im missing out on the 800 cause it was so close, you know what im saying? but i dont want to retake it and get a lower score so ill just be content… i hope i can
