i'm a bit ****ed off after getting my scores today...
december 2009 SAT i got
650 CR
770 M
790 W

2210 total
june 2010 i got
700 CR
800 M
720 W

2220 total

2290 superscored

would it be wise to try to improve my 2290 superscore to increase my chances at schools like stanford, princeton, or MIT or should i just let it go and be satisfied with 2290? i know that a 2300+ is a pretty big difference compared to 2250 - 2290. i'm also asian so i think this could screw my chances. what do you think?

I’ve taken the SAT for the first time and I got a 2160. I will definetley retake in September. Are you able to see your scores in time for September to cancel your scores in October?
Also, does taking it three times look bad?

@sic_infit: There is no SAT in September. =/ @RicePicker (funny name btw): I’m applying to the same schools basically and I only got a 2300 superscored. Seriously, 10 points (which amounts to one multiple choice question, essentially) is not going to make any difference whatsoever. Don’t worry about it.

i have college park as my safety so pretty much all my other applications will be to reaches (stanford, ivy, caltech). right now i’m leaning toward not retaking it.

what i’m trying to say is that it’s gonna be a lot more difficult for me since asians have a huge disadvantage at admissions. i’ve heard that they pretty much subtract 40 points from your SAT is you’re an asian male, so actually i think i might retake it to try to get a 2340 superscore

Yes, but what I’m trying to say is that taking the SAT 3 times is exactly the sort of thing the stereotypical Asian they’re discriminating against would do.

So I have two cousins who graduated and are pretty successful. One went to UC Santa Barbara and one went to Stanford.

So…

Cousin 1: academically, including SAT–> wonderful
Cousin 2: academically not great, but decided not to be a stereotypical Asian, helped community, etc. on ECs

If you are applying to a place where you want to do like engineering, then retake. If you don’t intend on a career in which math is a focus, and you aren’t sure if you’ll do better, then don’t. 740 is still a great score. It’s only like 3 wrong. I doubt it’d make or break an application. Where are you applying. I got a 710 in math. But I want to do poly sci or international relations, so I’m not retaking. My hook is writing. I got a 730 on verbal which isn’t great, but I’ve won essay contests, and I’m sure I’ll get great recs from my teachers who were impressed by my writing and verbal skills. If a 730 in V and 800 W isn’t enough to show colleges that I’m good in these areas, then whatever. I’m not retaking just to get my score up 30 points. They should be able to see that I am a good writer and you are good in math. A 740 should get the point across.

Yeah, I got engineering plans. And getting three wrong on the SAT math, is just awful for me. I’ll retake it and who knows if I’ll get an 800. I just hope I don’t screw math up on the ACT as well. meaning i better get a 36

Sure, 2220 is a CC-fail. But outside of CC, is 2220 really a sub-par? I highly doubt it. Actually, 2220 is more like the top 1st or 2nd percentile.

well the only thing i’m really worried about is breaking the 2300 superscore barrier becuase I think it has significance over a 2290…

so far my highest are

700 CR
800 M
790 W

i’m planning to major in computer engineering or something similar, so i’m still contemplating how much getting above a 2300 will affect me in schools like stanford… will it? i know my critical reading is awfully low to the top schools averages
