I’m applying to Engineer programs at top schools. I scored 1480 on the SAT with 710 EBRW and 770 math. The Math curve was really bad and I made stupid mistake and I got 770. I don’t think I can raise my English score, but maybe I can get 800 in Math. Should I take the test again to raise my Math to 800? Also, I have an 800 in math2 and a 7 Math HL IB, so does that prove that I’m good at math or should I retake the SAT?
Are you a junior? Just wondering how much time you have.
If you are a junior its worth it only for Engineering School. 770 would be fine otherwise.
I’m Senior, it is too late for ED, but I can use it for RDs
What colleges are you applying to? Since you are a senior and already have an 800 Math II, I don’t think a 30 point increase will be worth the retake. I’d focus on the other aspects of your apps.
Upenn ED. for RD maybe Cornell, Northwestern, Harvey Mudd, and some safeties. Thanks for the advice, I will try to focus on more important things.
My daughter recently got a 1570 (790
Math and 780 EBRW, and is also wanting to retake to get an 800 in math. I am thinking it is not worth it. She is a junior so has time to decide.
I think 10 points are that important at this point. There are many other areas she can work at to strengthen her application instead of taking the test again for 10 points
Did you mean “aren’t”?
Back to OP:
Harvey Mudd’s SAT Math 25th percentile is 780.
Penn’s overall SAT 25th percentile is 1460
Cornell’s 50th percentile for Math and Total are 770 and 1480
Northwestern’s 25-75% is 1440-1550.
When you say “and some safeties”, do you consider these to be match/target schools? You are at or below the mid-point for all of these very competitive schools. If you don’t think your score represents your abilities, and think you can score substantially higher, I would suggest re-taking it.
Sorry, Yeah I meant aren’t
The uni’s I mentioned are my reaches. MY targets are Rochester, Grinnel College, and North Carolina. Safties are WPI, Florida, and union College
