I plan on applying to Purdue’s engineering program and wondered if I should retake the SAT to, hopefully, increase my math score. Their average is around 720 in math, but mine was only around 680. It’s possible that I’m just overthinking it. I am in-state and also a female, so I’m not sure if my chances would still be okay with a slightly lower math score. My overall score was 1430, slightly above average.
Any input at all would be greatly appreciated.
What does the rest of your application look like? UW GPA? Course rigor?
I’m curious if you’re even able to retake the SAT given all of the cancellations. My D’s SAT has been canceled three times since March; every location in our state has been canceled.
Unweighted GPA is 3.98. I’m ranked 9/154 and have taken nearly every dual credit/ AP class offered at my school. I’m also the president of my school’s Technology Student Association.
I live in a rural town and my school hosts it. There have been people coming from 2-3 hours away because of all of the cancellations.
If you believe you can score higher, based on practice tests or knowing the mistakes you made from QAS, then it probably makes sense to try it again.
From Purdue’s data digest, the average Math score for Engineering was 738/735 over the last two years and that likely carries more weight than the EBRW score.
Your overall application profile seems positive, but a higher Math score could help.
