I have a 690 in US history, should I retake if I'm aiming for schools like Rice or Georgetown?

I don’t know about Rice/Georgetown specifically, but if you’re aiming at that calibre school it would be advantageous for you to take it again. The thing that is unfortunate about the history SAT II is that it focuses more on specific details than the big, abstract ideas the AP is on. I got a 760 on US History SAT II yet 5’d APUSH without breaking a sweat.

It’s unlikely your U.S. History class covered all the material that the test is on, I know mine didn’t. Take more practice tests, read your textbook/online about the specific topics that you didn’t know (say…antebellum period or WWI) and then improve!

The thing about SAT II’s is you choose which ones you submit and colleges will never see what scores you didn’t send, so it’s in your best interests to try and make your SAT II’s as high as possible.

i got a 690 my first time and retook for a 750. I’d say retake ONLY if you are willing to work your ASS off.

Dont take it again. They use the sat 2 for placment, rather then admissions. Heres a shocker, my brother entered columbia with a 650 and a 570 on his subject tests. So it makes you think.
