Retake?

Should I retake if I've gotten a 740 on WH and I know I could have done better?
I know there's no set "scores" that are deemed acceptable, but what are the general "good" scores? Above 760?

Sorry if I sound complaining-ish. I'm actually really curious.

Anything above a 750 is considered “good,” but you should send everything above a 700.

If you’re certain you can do better, then by all means retake it. Assuming you just finished sophomore year, you have plenty of test dates during junior year to take whatever you want. If you were to retake it, you should take it during the earlier test dates (Oct, Nov, or Dec), so you can save the later test dates for the SAT and other SAT2s (and while the material is still fresh to you).

Percentile Chart: <a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

According to that chart, you are in the 88th percentile. If you are absolutely sure you could do significantly better, I would consider taking it again. Taking it again and getting a 750 won’t be very helpful (it would be a waste of time to study and only get 10 pts higher). If you have other, more important tests to study for (SATs or more important SAT IIs), it would be in your best interest to NOT retake (assuming you are in the graduating in 2013)

General “good” scores are 750+. If you are aiming for Ivies or other upper tier colleges, know that 750+ is what most applicants will have.

Know that a 740 will not make or break your app. It is still a very good, enviable score.
