This question may have an obvious answer, but i just wanted to verify.

I had a couple F's and 1 D that i received a four years ago at the start of my CC career. Since then, in my recent stay at CC i have retaken all 3 courses and received A's.

I explained the reason for the bad grades in the 3rd section of the personal statement. (family hardships/failing to withdraw from classes properly).

My question is, how much will those grades have an impact on me being accepted to Berkeley/UCLA?? And, secondly, will they notice the replaced grades (and omit the old grades) when calculating my UC gpa?

The schools aren’t really going to care as to what excuse you come up with detailing why you received those grades. The fact that you retook them and got A’s is good enough. The A’s will be the grades that are calculated into your gpa and your chances in getting accepted to those schools will still be high. Don’t worry.

the grades wont affect my GPA since i have retaken them. They will still be on my transcript no matter what, i was just curious to know if them being on my transcript will affect my chances, even though they have been retaken. And if they will recognize this on their own when calculating my GPA. Thanks for the responses.

and correct me if i’m wrong, but i don’t think i can do academic renewal since some of the other courses i took back then i am using as transferable units in fulfilling my IGETC.

thats not true academic renewal, is per class thing, so u do it to individual classes, and if u do it, then on ur appication instead of inserting “F” u insert “AR” that way it ownt look as bad, cuz think about it these are humans beings looking at an app, an F is an immediate turn off, but an AR can be overlooked, cuz it looks like youve put in that little xtra effort for redemption, i know it sounds corny, but its true.
