Retaking MAE Major Courses Over

So I am lost on deciding whether or not to retake two mechanical engineering courses that I got D's in. One was Mechanical Vibrations and the other was Thermodynamics. I was considering taking them over this summer for two reasons which are boosting my GPA and because they are important courses. There are during different sessions, and if I get at least a B+ in both it will bring my major GPA above a 3.0 again. I graduate in the fall taking about 13 credits (4 in major).

The thing is I don't know if it is worth the money I am paying in order to do this. Basically 1000 for each course. I have the time to do it since I didn't get any internships for the summer unfortunately. I feel like my GPA is the reason I didn't get any internships despite all of my Formula SAE experience.

How does it look to an employer if they look at my transcript? Does a 2.9 something look much worse than a 3.0 major gpa? My overall is a little bit less sitting at like a 2.8. Any advice is appreciated.

3.0 is an important threshold for engineering work. I would suggest you retake the class.

Some schools do not accept D grades in major requirements, so you may want to check if you have to retake them anyway.

My school does accept D’s in major requirements but I didn’t want to just settle for a D is these two particular courses.

I want to set myself up to get the best job possible and having a 3.0 opens a lot more doors so I agree.
