If I'm trying to go to Stanford, is it better to take two SAT Subject Tests in December (even though Stanford doesn't require them) or to retake my SAT Reasoning Test? I got a 2140 on my last test; however, I know I could get a 2300+ if I were to retake it.

If you’re so certain you can get a 2300+ on a retake, do that. I think it would make your application more competitive.

On a side note, the Literature test is supposed to be the hardest subject test–one you can’t really study for and it is considered to be kind of like an IQ test. (Or so I’ve heard.) If you take that and you get an 800 or close to it, I think it would be pretty damn impressive. But don’t count on it. Plus if it’s irrelevant to your major, don’t waste your time on it.

i would recommend doing both if u can, but if u had to chose then retake the SAT

I got a 5 on the AP language test and I’ve always been good at multiple choice reading passages, so would a high literature score be more impressive than retaking the SATs?

I think your app will look better with a higher SAT score than with your current sat score and a high lit score. The reasoning test is far more important.

No, take the SAT. If you have a week to spare to go through the Lit book and the money, give it a shot. You don’t have to submit it. But definitely retake the SAT.
