Would it be helpful if I retake the SAT 1 and Subject Tests in college to improve my scores which I got in high school? Or do SATs don't count as much for transfer admissions? I'm an international student and hoping to transfer to Stanford or Columbia.

Well, it is true that you need the best scores you can get but an example of what I mention is Carnegie Mellon which doesn't take into account SATs taken in college. You would have to check on an individual basis.

Normally colleges don't like it when people take the sat again in college..

This notion makes sense to me and may be true for some colleges. HOWEVER, it is not true for all. Stanford, eg, states in its transfer app instructions that you may submit stronger, newer scores. I called to ask if they really want to see SAT II scores in chem/physics/math from a kid who has just completed college level courses in this subject. The answer is that they will accept them. How much of a role they play, I don't know.

I would like to agree with collegeparent, above, but for some schools I think the statement that the college transcript and essays count and the SATs don't could be off base. That said, my S chose NOT to re-take SATs - although his hs SAT IIs were lackluster at best. We'll see what his results are, because his college transcript is tops and his essays I believe are strong.

Jmmom, you're right about the disparity in schools and their consideration of SAT scores for transfers. That is why -- and I suggest strongly that the OP does do this -- transfer applicants need to discuss their questions with the transfer counselor who can usually be found in most adcom offices.
