Retaking Statistics in winter?

Hi,

I'm applying to UCLA soon, but things aren't going all that well for me. I'm taking statistics right now and I'm struggling in it. I'm fairly certain I'll get a D this fall semester. I've heard that UCLA really wants their applicants to have completed it with a C by the end of fall, but I wonder if retaking the course in the winter and passing it with a C will mean the difference between getting admitted and being rejected. Should I just say "screw it" and apply next year, or try and pass stats in the winter? The admissions decisions are made in the spring, so they should know about my getting a better grade in the stats class in winter session.

Relevant info: My GPA is 3.85(likely to decline to 3.6 or so after this semester, lol), my major is philosophy, which is not impacted and has an average accepted applicant GPA of 3.56, and I'm going to be TAP certified soon.

Edit: Also, on the UC application, should I state that I will take another stats class in the winter? Is there any way I can explain on the application that I'll probably get a D in my fall stats class?

Winter grades usually aren’t in before the update is due… unless your Winter session ends before the update, it’ll essentially look the same as retaking it in the Spring. I don’t know if they have any way to submit updates after that, I know my Winter grades got lumped in with Spring/Summer (and weren’t submitted before decisions came out).

I’d say apply anyways… worst case scenario, if it doesn’t work out or if you’re not happy with the options, you can just stay at CC for an extra year. Best case scenario, you fix the grade/get lucky/whatever and get accepted.
