I have to take stats the spring before transfer. Does that affect my chances for transfer since it was not done in the fall?? Because I know for example, UCSB has an agreement that if you have stats completed in fall and have a certain gpa you are gauranteed admission. So that leaves me to believe that schools want that done in the fall? Any information would be great!

I took stats this past spring. I dont believe it changed anything since I got into Berkeley. They knew what I was taking; you must inform universities of your planned courses for the upcoming spring on your original application. The last grades that they take into consideration are the previous fall semester, as well as winter session, if you take it. You update your application with these grades as they come in.

I was accepted under the condition that I finish all my planned courses. I couldn't get any grade lower than a C, but I had to get a semester gpa of 3.0, which is a B average. This made it impossible to get very many C's (perhaps one or two if the rest of your grades are A's). I think Berkeley, with the exception of perhaps UCLA, is the only UC that requires a 3.0 spring semester gpa in order to keep your admission. I believe the rest of the UC's require a 2.8, which is a C average.

G'Luck.

IZZIE BEAR do you mind disclosing where you obtained that info? Is that 3.0 requirement overall or just for that spring semester. I'm currently taking only one class this spring and I'm borderline c+/b- but the c would still keep me at the gpa to which I was admitted. Did someone reliable say this to you or did you read it somewhere?

It's a 3.0 for the semester, not overall.

And yes, this information was given to me in the "conditions for admission" on my acceptance letter from UCBerkeley.

MexBruin...I don't know if this is the same for UCLA (where I assume you're going).

Your done with your spring 2005 semester right? Mine ended two weeks ago.

Hi IzzieBear! Did Berkeley specifically state that you need a 3.0 the previous semester? I guess they do it differently for everyone since they didn't state that for me. Oh wait, it that what the "B average" means? Doesn't matter, coz I satisfied all conditions :B Which CALSO you going to? Or have you attended?

Hey there suzzieq.

Yeah, Berkeley's acceptance letter said I needed a 3.0 for the spring semester before I transfered. And yeah, that's what B average is. I also satisfied their requirements, so Hurray for us.

I will be going to CalSo on June 30th, what about you?

Hey IzzieBear:

I'll be at the June 30th CALSO too! Cool. I'm with the College of Chemistry. What about u? I'll see you there. Can't wait to go! :)

Oh Wow, that's pretty cool!

I'm with the College of Letters and Sciences - English major..perhaps doubling in..well, that's a toss up. I have so many ideas. Heh.

Where did you apply for housing (if you plan on living on campus) ?

I'll see you in Berkeley =)

It changes nothing, however a few of the UC's did give me a phone call asking about the classes I had yet to complete before I got offered admissions.

I have been told by my counselor and reps from Cal and UCLA that it may make you less competitive if you save stats till your last semester, unless you have recently taken other math classes at your school leading up to stats. The same goes with the crit thinking/english requirement. But there's no rule against it.

a 2.8 is NOT a C average.

A C average is a 2.0.

I just felt like clearing that up...

I hope I do not need a b average for ucla because I only took Chemistry and managed to pull off a c. My overall gpa for this past semester as a result is a 2.0 I was retaking this chem class because I was previuosly a bio major and failed organic chem but ucla still admitted me despite that f. I replaced it with a c so my gpa will go up right since I will replace that f? With the f my overall gpa was still a 3.4 I'm a poli sci major by the way. Is the 2.0 requirement the same for UCLA as it is for CAL I haved read my admissions contract and it mentions nothing of the sort. Anyone have any info on this?

hey mexbruin , what polisci prereqs did you complete

mexbruin,

If maintaining a 3.0 gpa for the recent spring semester isn't one of your conditions from admission at UCLA, then I suppose it's just specific to newly admitted students at Cal. Don't worry about it too much..but if you're iffy, give your admissions officer a call and double check.

Oh, and I'm sorry I said 2.8 was a C average. I am perfectly aware a C average is a 2.0, I suppose I was just spacing out.

<3, IzzieBear

I completed 5 poli sci classes and statistics for my major then IGETC those five poli sci classes were really interesting and awesome they were Political History of western civilization, Politic climate in China, Politics of Africa, American Government, and a survey of other european governments with a focus on the UK and their system. Really awesome classes for any non poli sci majors aswell you get introduced to alot of cultures and gain a worldly perspective I took these classes in Mission College by the way with prof. Dirks (highly recommend him) He's one of those old guys that did everything in his lifetime reminds me of indiana jones. He was part of the first peace corps known as Kennedy's kiddie corps and supposedly he was with bobby kennedy the night he was murdered and has played football with the kennedys on the white house lawn, he speaks nine languages and he says his great grandfather found the city of la crescenta just stuff like that the funny thing is he has the slides to proof it and shows em off in class. Great guy.
