Is it wise to retest for Math IIc after getting 770?
Planning for Ivyies.
Consider myself strong in Math.
Taking AP Calc. BC in 10th now.

I know a friend who's retaking IIC after getting 770.

So yeah, do it. Study for it.

yup go for it. I got a 730 the first time and 770 on my second try.

I don't think it'll hurt. One of my friends got 760 on the first try and 800 on the second try. Go for it.

don't waste your time nor money. No college will care. Once you get above 750 they go look for other stuff in your app.

I know tons people that take it after pre-calculus and get 800s. Being in AP calculus BC doesn't really help since they don't test calculus.

i got a 760 first and then took it again and got an 800....SOOO WORTH IT!!!

there's really no diff btwn 770 & 800 but if you're sure you can get 800 then go for it

Hardly any difference between the 2 scores.

I completely agree. Even though I scored a 740 the first time, I took it again for an 800. Taking the exam a second time in your situation, scoring a 770, will probably hurt your application rather than help it.

You will look totally and completely INSANE if you retake a 770--any 770. It is a waste of time, a waste of money, and will in no way improve your chances--at best they will think that you had a little too much time on your hands, at worst they will think that you are really, really score obsessed.

I also received a 770 on the Math II, and some people told me to retake. I see the posts upthread that say retake as well. I didn't do it, and neither should you. Listen to the people who are telling you how little (basically zero) the difference is between a 770 and an 800. They are correct. You are in BC Calc your sophmore year--colleges will know that you are good in math--really good at math. You don't need a score 30 points higher to prove this--a 770 is plenty high enough.

i agree with everything advantagious said...770=800, in my eyes

If you are absolutely sure you could reach 800, certainly retake. I don't think admission officers actually sit and think about disparity of scores and why people retake, so they'd just only see 800 and be more impressed.

^ agreed .

I think I would retake it. Will AP Stat help? I'm planning to take AP Stat in my Junior year, so would retake SAT Math 2C some time next year.

I just cannot disagree more. It is a total and complete waste of time to retake a 770. An 800 will not provide even a small tip in your favor over a 770--any college adcom will tell you that (Yes, I have heard them say this!), that's not just me being bitter because I got a 770. Spend your time studying for other SAT II's, for class, or just sleeping!

AP Stats won't help you for the Math II either (well, you'll learn the standard deviation formula, which can be easily memorized by a non-Stats student--not a big push).

wow... i'm in the same situation... even the 770 part o.O i might retake it if i have time... I'm going to take my other SAT 2's and the SAT first

there is a difference between 770 and 800 because if one scores an 800, colleges possibly might think that you didnt get any wrong but if u get a 770, they know exactly how many u got wrong (for 770 its like what ~8-10 wrong?). correct me if im mistaken

scary, you don't know what you're talking about. retaking a 770 will be frowned upon. and if there are only 50 questions on the exam, do you really think 10 wrong will equal a 770? this kid probably omitted one, and got one wrong. that is still a very respectable score.

scary: colleges won't think anything bcos they won't care about the extra correct bubble. BUT, they will wonder why the OP can't find anything better to do on a Saturday morning. :D
