Returning students: Earliest housing check-in?

Anyone know the earliest an upperclassman can check in to housing in late August? The Housing web site says the 30th. Due to logistics, D would have to get there on Aug. 29th for school-related meetings starting the 30th. (She’s not helping with freshmen check-in.) The person who answered the phone at Housing said there’d be no problem checking in on the 29th. (What she actually said was, “Sure” and “That’s okay.”)

Well, I’d like a bit more comfort than that. I can just see the airport shuttle dropping D off at her dorm at 6 PM on the 29th, only to find she can’t get in.

Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks.

you would have to call the building manager of the dorm she’s staying in DIRECTLY. do not talk to anyone but the building manager. do not call Housing, they don’t know what they’re talking about. it’s the RHOM’s call. (residential hall operations manager.)

since welcome week leaders will have moved in by then (we move in on the 26th) she should be fine.

Thanks, MAP! Never even thought about the building managers.
Called this morning; the decision-maker’s on vacation, but they’ll check. And it really became apparent that these were the right people to call.
Any limit as to how late in the day a person can check in? Would 8 or 9 PM be okay?

i think by 9, the official office shuts down. even 8:30 is pushing it. you can move in as late as you want, but to actually get the key, i would try to be there by 8.

for future reference:

Housing Office: for general NYU Housing stuff such as, “i hate my roommate and want to change” “i think my housing bill is incorrect” “i’d like to withdraw from housing for a semester, i’m studying abroad!”

RHOM: for residential hall specific stuff.

Make sure they also notify the security guards on duty that night. I had a couple friends get permission from the RHOM to move in early only to get hassled by guards.
