I got into Revelle as a Human Biology major. What's the college like itself? How are the DORMS, classes, people, etc?

YEA I got into revelle too, but I don't like calc and the ge is like 3 calc courses which blows.

But how is Revelle??

honestly, it's probably the worst one when considering dorms, food, location, and GEs, but it does have the best college feel (if that means anything to you)

It can't be THAT bad can it? I heard somewhere that the dorms are the biggest.

Aw man.

I really should've done more research when picking colleges. :[

lol man think about how silly I feel for picking muir because I thought the name sounded cool!

i got into revelle today and i have no idea what the hell revelle is lol

it's definitely not that bad. i would just prefer living in the other colleges, and a lot of that is probably just my opinion. go in with an open mind and you'll probably like it.

okay, as a revelle student, dorms are definitely not bad. I really like how Blake and Argo are set up (maybe not so much the fleets) - but revelle dorms are pretty nice.

the food is not so good, but then again I've heard people say plaza cafe is really good compared to their college; so I really think it's just people get sick of their own college food and prefer the variety provided at other college's cafeterias. eg. i really like ovt, but a lot of marshall students say they hate it...?

the GE's definitely are a pain. as a science major, i don't mind the bio/chem/science reqs, but HUM...not so much :)

THE location, however, is really good. No one can complain about the location. You are close to CLICS, main gym, York, all the classrooms in Muir, Sierra Summit, Plaza Cafe, the Med School.

revelle, like any other college, has it's ups and downs.

ps. when i applied to ucsd, i chose the colleges randomly too. i think on the uc application they should make choosing a college more informative and a bigger deal than the current system makes it seem.

i applied and was accepted as a communications major at UCSD and was also admitted to Revelle college which i am finding a bit concerning after reading some of the posts on the website... i definitely do not have much interest in science and math classes and i am a very social outgoing person... anyone have any advice or good things to say about revelle? thx

Revelle College is the most demanding of the UCSD colleges in terms of GEs. However, you will be a much more well-rounded graduate. Grad schools know that Revelle grads are solid, and enjoy a good rep with grad and professional schools.

it has intense GE. however, if you are a science or math major, dont worry about it

i hate it when people say revelle has sucky housing. seriously, our rooms are HUGE, the chance of tripples are slim, and we have a suite style, and i think that is so much better then a long hall of dorms. food isnt that bad, and if you hate it, go to another cafeteria, its good exercise

I live in Revelle (I'm a Muir student who got shafted) but I actually really like living here. We're really close to York Hall, where a LOT of my classes have been so far, and I personally like Plaza's food, especially the entrees. I don't mind eating there every day at all. I live in a fleet, and even that's not that bad. It's pretty spacious when there aren't TOO many people in the room hanging out. It gets crowded with over 5-6 people in the room (for me... I like my space) but I was surprised at how large it seemed when I first moved in.

are the 5 quarters of english really rigorous? can you tell me about it?

if im going into pre-med.. which bio major do you think i should take?

revelle definitely isnt as bad as people say it is. as a matter of fact, im loving it so far. it is the most difficult college as far as rigor of ge's but you definitely get a lot out of. plus the hum sequence (its difficult) makes you a kick-ass writer which will stay for you your whole life. only downside is, dont expect on graduating in 4 years unless you have a lot of ap credits.

kbncp

the HUM courses arent that bad i dont think. Im more of an english buff, i dont do math or science lol. It's a lot of work, and I was never offered a good AP English course at my high school, but most students have taken AP english and its pretty much that.

You read books in a short amount of time, for example, the Bible (sounds bad, but i really liked it. it is pretty interesting, and we focus on it as a piece of fiction, not for religious purposes) and the Odyssey.

You write a few papers in the quarter, and they are pretty rough graders. It also depends on your TA. Im a pretty good writer who had a strict TA and i got C's on most of my papers. A friend of mine hates english and writing and isnt that good, but had an easy TA and got Bs a lot (grr, lol. jk)

I really dont think HUM is that bad. You get used to having it. I have the only HUM teacher who gives a study guide for his finals, which helps A LOT. my friends in different classes actually typed 18 pages of notes cus they had no idea what would be on it.

In simple terms, its pretty intense, but I dont think its a hard couse to pass.

hanhou, who is your HUM teacher?

what's the average gpa that ppl get in revelle..for bio, chem etc classes?
also, anyone at revelle know what it's like being a human bio major? difficult classes..

I was also accepted to revelle and i went there for admit day. i fell in love with the campus and the dorms i thought were nice and simple nothing fancy. i was scared when my tour guide said that there are no air conditioners because the dorms are so close to the beach. the GE i think are great and in my opinion much better than UCLA's. That is one of the reason's why I can't decide between UCSD or UCLA.

P.S. If anyone knows about the math major or the general requirements at any of the two college I would gladly appreciate the help.
