[/ul]General Comments: I’m very torn on whether or not to attend Rice; I’ve visited several times and everyone I’ve known thats gone has LOVED it. However, it’s extremely nerdy. I stayed for several days with a friend and almost all social interaction was study groups…Not sure thats all I want out of my college experience. I got a $17,500 per year merit scholarship, but am waiting on my Financial Aid package to see if Rice is truly an option anyway. Congrats to everyone!

accepted! find my stats elsewhere :)

All of our social interactions are not just in study groups haha. Come to Owl Days =]

I think that’s more indicative of your friend’s social group than the general campus atmosphere.

Congratulations to everyone who got in. Rice will be better than you can imagine; I know it has been for me friends and me.

D was accepted. She said I could post 35 ACT, Rank 1/324, NMF, 14 AP’s, 4.0 unw/4.5w, good ec’s, never saw recs. Public High school

Decision: Waitlisted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2080 (700CR 700M 680W)
[] ACT: 32
[] SAT II: 2080 (700CR 690M 690 W)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Not sure (Weighted: 4.45)
[] Rank: 2/592
[] AP: World History(5) Calculus AB(5) English Comp(4) US History(4) Physics B(3)
[] IB: Didn’t take
[] Senior Year Course Load: 6/7 classes where AP for the first semester (Calc BC, Statistics AP, English Lit AP, Macroeconomics AP, US Gov AP, Physics C)
[] Major Awards: None
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Science Olympiad, ACE Mentor Program, DATA Student Volunteers (Junior Officer)
[] Job/Work Experience: Little odd jobs, about 25 hours at most
[] Volunteer/Community service: About 100 hours at the time, mostly at old folks homes
[] Essays: Common App - Very Good, Rice Supplement - Good (could have been better)
[] Teacher Recommendation: Great!
[] Counselor Rec: Generic
[] Additional Rec: None
[] Interview: None, didn’t have the opportunity
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid? Yes (IDOC didn’t get there 'til March 4th)
[] Intended Major: Mechanical (They didn’t have Aerospace listed)
[] State: Texas
[] School Type: Public (magnet program)
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian (but culturally Hispanic… I’m confused on this part. Unfortunately, I went with Caucasian)
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Lower Middle Class
[] Hooks: First gen college, traveled around South America my whole life 'til about 6 years ago (not military), did lots of volunteer work with my parents when I was younger, eldest of 6 children (I’ve never met anyone who didn’t think that is interesting)
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: High rank and GPA, interesting background (must have been)
[] Weaknesses: Weak ECs, low SAT/ACT scores compared to most of you, diversity essay
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I don’t think I spent enough time on my diversity essay. These things always get me. If I was better at explaining my life it might have been a lot better. Also, I think an interview would definitely have helped, but my family has a very busy schedule. Sadly, I had no time for it. Same for the ECs and volunteering.
[/ul]General Comments: Even though I didn’t get right in, I’m still pretty awed that I made it to the wait list, considering that there seem to have been people much more qualified than myself who got rejected. Unfortunately, even if I do get admitted later on, I will not receive any merit scholarships, which will heavily affect my ability to cover the costs of going to a private school. I’m not mad though, just a little disappointed, and I still look forward to possibly getting admitted later on, even if I can’t afford it.

^Oh, SAT II is the subject tests. In that case, 690 Math 2 and 630 Physics.
