@SuperLaker woah it’s different? I always thought international kids go through the same process as others

@SuperLaker woah it’s different? I always thought international kids go through the same process as others

@lydia444 International kids go through the same process as others, except those applying for financial aid (which is not available in Early Decision), who will be reviewed in a separate group.

Who thinks it will be released tomorrow? If so will they email us to notify when they post them on the student portal?

@URBOISALU I have a feeling it’s going to be Monday, but I do really wish they send them as early as possible. I believe they will send an email saying our student portal status has been updated and then you log on to see the decision.

I’m also feeling Monday…
Also not sure I’m mentally prepared to find out tomorrow.

@owl2019 You are not alone at all!

Guess it’s not today :(

I’m pretty much drained of emotions after worrying for so long. Whatever happens happens. Good luck to all you guys!

is it true that they do not give financial aid(or are very less inclined) to ED applicants? I applied for financial aid though, and I am applying ED.

@URBOISALU I read somewhere on Rice that applying for financial aid when applying for ED decreases your chance of admission

Good luck everyone! I’m way too busy studying for a final that I am kinda doing well waiting. I really hope it comes out tomorrow! RICE IS LYFE.

@MattTheKoala @URBOISALU Alright. There actually is a rumor that schools, and not just Rice, give lower admit rates to those applying for fin aid. I’m not completely sure it’s true, but regarding money, there’s a good chance it is.

To answer the other question, I’ve contacted Rice personally about this and since they’re a private institution with probably other factors, they match quite closely to what you input into the net price calculator so run the net price and see what it comes out to. Some schools with less endowment probably do give out less fin aid for those applying ED. Since the school has already lured you in, they may choose to give you less money because of your commitment, and since ED is binding, there’s not much leeway in rejecting their aid proposal. This is mainly public schools though.

Yes, there are schools that are need aware for admissions. RIce is not one of them. They accept on a need blind basis and meet 100% of need as defined by their own formula.

However, almost NO school that I know of, including Harvard is 100% need blind for every section, program that they administer. It is possible that some schools will have need aware policies in place for ED in that it may come into the decision to accept or defer if there is financial need. Or if the financial information is not complete and so not possible to give an estimated aid package by the ED date, which leads into complications when a student with need gets accepted but the school can’t give the fin aid package. It falls into the incomplete file department for deferral, as all students whose files are not complete tend to get deferred to RD so they can be processed with all info right there.

Actually, for a number of schools (CMU an example) applying ED is ensuring you get full need met if accepted, as CMU does NOT guarantee to meet full need to all students.

Feeling anxious and wondering if today will be the day. Good luck to all!

I’m torn. I want to know, but at the same time I don’t want the fantasy of believing I might get in to end.

They are up

Decisions are up. Unfortunately, S was denied.

My D was deferred to regular decision. What does that mean?
