Did you guys also get an email from the FA office aside from the update on the site??

that's reassuring

For those who have received finaid, does the finaid package include merit scholarships, or are those a seperate thing, cause the admissions office evaluates merit based on our application?

mine did not although I would assume they award them and let the FA office know so that they can adjust accordingly. I have heard however that very few ED applicants get merit scholarships. Possibly because they know we are coming no matter what and they use scholarships to lure RD students.

it just says rice grants and work study...

BTW pyles, how are you so knowledgeable?

I've done a lot. A LOT of research about Rice and I know a girl from my school who goes there. I asks a lot of questions

I've been to an info session and have called the lady who had it a couple times

I asked lots of questions with my interviewer and have remained in contact with her.

I visited in person and stayed over-night. Spoke with a couple people from the adcom and the FA office. Met a lot of students who gave general advice

From being on CC like drugs for the past two months.

Being a dork who would actually do all that lol

hahaha wait so you actually called someone there to ask about this situation?

no not this particular one. But information that I already had, coupled with logic brought be to my conclusions.

@pyles

I've done research on the specific fields but not their policies and stuff...

Me too! Dean Tamara came to our school to discuss Rice and i kept with contact with her before she came and sent her an email after she came... She remembered me on that day and said "it was nice to meet you"

ME TOO!! I have kept in contact with my interviewer also... We have sent each other, probably more than 15 emails. We kept in contact afterwards.

I wish to visit and stay overnight but i don't know anyone :(

I have been on CC the past week like a drug addict

It's good to be a dork. I am one also

Hmm, I'm hesitant to check my Financial Aid status... I'm just going to wait until Monday so I don't get any false hope. But congratulations to those who (most likely?) got accepted!

I don't believe this is the case. Anecdotally we know of quite a few ED kids who got merit scholarships. YMMV.

Damnit I got one of the letters that didn't say congratulations... this kind of sucks.

phade did you apply for aid?

Yes... I got a message its just one of the ones that doesn't say congrats.

did you need aid?

I think I do, so do my parents, obviously Rice doesn't... But thats not whats bothering me right now. The way I see it I could be ineligible for aid for two reasons: because I have to much money saved up or because I didn't get into Rice... The message really doesn't clarify.

i guess we have to wait and see. I'm sorry to hear that though. I cant believe would offer NO financial aid though

He reads the rice.edu website? o.O?

@phade i think it just means you made too much money and we will have to find out later...

because you received the same msg as those did not qualify

Hey I did not apply for financial aid yet. But on my commonapp, i said i was interested in doing so.

Is there a way to still check?
