Rice Interim Decision Official Post

A wonder if they find an Asian girl who has lived in America all her life and is extremely interested in Asian studies/language/culture and wants to go to China/Japan or any other Asian country on a program from Rice and teach English as somewhat interesting. Whoa, runon sentence.

If it's articulated well in your essays and EC's as being a strong passion, then certainly. Hopefully, you sent a recommendation from an English teacher (or whomever) who can speak about that.

General Comments: off to the R/B application. no scholarship…which was kind of disappointing because im not sure if private schools are even an option without MAJOR financial aid. but yay anyways :) congrats to those who got in…for those who were deferred, DON’T GIVE UP! and for those we were denied, don't let it get you down because you’ll definitely have a blast no matter where you go.

Although I know there are more factors than I can imagine in a college decision, it couldn't have helped to be asian male...:( Oh well, at least they gave me a chance in RD. Good luck everyone.

gosh...you people give the sats so much importance. if you get denied dont take it personal. its not just meant to be. also, deferred people dont give up hope because you might still get in. about the guy who has the daughter that didnt get in:
colleges cannot accept all the applications that they receive which means that they are forced to reject/deferr some qualified applicants. Also, Rice has a little bit of a different approach, they are just not looking for the intelligent person with all the extracurriculars. they are looking for something that sets them out from everybody else that is why the interview is so important. for my acceptance i think the interview allowed me to express how much i wanted to go to rice. dont take things personal just because somebody makes a comment even thought it might seem a little tactless. nobody is trying to appear as an eletist and if somebody is they wont fit in at rice. When i was there this last weekend for the Rice vison, i realized that even though there might be people with alot of money present in the classes i was observing i couldnt tell their status by the way they dressed. something i could at yale and princeton, which is a very cool thing because it is an environment of equity. everybody is the same and acts the same. no elitist there for sure man. even the proffesors dressed pretty casual although some didnt.
