S got an invitation to Rice Vision 2015. Given that, what are the odds of getting an offer from Rice? He really has heart set on this school and I am hoping he gets accepted?
I think it’s a good sign. From previous CC threads, it seems to be an event for URM kids. Is that true in your case?
Yes. He is URM.
An invitation to Vision weekend is definitely a good sign. My DDs both got invites and were told by a prof (unofficially) that the fact that they were invited meant admission. It’s great weekend to check out the school and at the time Rice paid for airfare to Houston. DDs came back from weekend tired but excited about the prospect of attending Rice. Good luck to your S!

All : Thanks for the info.
S already officially registered for the three day visit.
Do they send them all at one time?
From what I read on CC from previous years, the invites are sent over time ( I am not sure about the time window).
Yay I’m going! So excited I hope this means admission, that would be so relieving knowing the ‘unofficial’ answer already!
I was invited to Vision 2014, and we were explicitly told that we were unofficially accepted, barring any drastic academic or behavioral changes before the release of admission letters.
Is this event for URM’s only? If you don’t get an invite, does that mean that your application was looked upon less favorably than those with invites?
Yes, only for URMs. No, you can still get in even without a vision invitation.
@emenya See ya there!!
“If you don’t get an invite, does that mean that your application was looked upon less favorably than those with invites?”
I know many URM students at Rice who weren’t invited. Not sure how they decide who to invite, but if you are URM and did not get an invite that does not mean you will be rejected.
Ayeeee!!! @z0e101 You’re going too!!! Awesome lol
Booked travel arrangements! Super excited.
Sorry for my ignorance but what is “urm”?
@IrishDadMD underrepresented minorities. includes hispanics, african americans, native americans
Just dropped off my S for the vision weekend. This was my first time @ Rice. It is a beautiful Campus.
Does anyone know if you have to have applied for financial aid to be invited to VISION? I am a hispanic (4.74 weighted, 9 5’s on APs, 2400 SAT) who did not get an invite and did not apply for aid, while a good friend of mine, also hispanic, with somewhat lower stats was invited. He did apply for aid.
Any further insight past this into the selection process would be appreciated. I am very enthusiastic about Rice and even applied by the December 1 deadline to get an alumni interview. I had considered myself a strong candidate for admission before this, but now I am less certain. Thanks in advance.
