Hello,

I am having a problem with arriving to Lexington this fall. Here is my problem :

I am flying to the US this Aug 24 from Vietnam and as ROA is a small local airport, my agent doesnt have straight flight to it. Instead, I will have to fly to DCA first, then (as I planned) take a cab straight to Lex.
The thing is (all of a sudden to me) I didn't know the ride 'd cost me nearly 200$ until one of my friends at W&L told me so.
I have checked the Amtrak train's schedule from the Union Station at DC to Staunton, VA or Charlottesville, VA but there is no train at 4:00 pm Aug 24(when I arrive in DCA)
And the Greyhound bus to Roanoke would take me like 6-7 hours. This means I will arrive in the school very late, prbly like 2 am or so. This is kinda inconvenient for me coz this is the first time I go abroad alone and I definitely don't want to miss the international students orientation next morning, which begins with a ride to the shopping malls.
So now I kind of have no idea what to do.
I am asking if there is someone here(or have friends) who will go from DC to Lex (or can give me a ride there) on Aug 24, please help me!
I'd be willing to share the gas fee. Thanks a lot in advance.

I believe that last year the school had some shuttle buses going back and forth between the airports.

Finally, I hate to disappoint you, but Lexington does not have any shopping malls. The shopping consists of a giant Wal Mart on the outskirts of town and a good number of "cute" locally owned shops and stores downtown, right next to campus. Some of these shops and stores are really great. The nearest mall is in Roanoke, adjacent to the airport, about 45 minutes away. Charlottesville also has abundant shopping and is about an hour away.

By the way, the Roanoke airport, while not an international gateway, is what I would all medium sized. If you fly from Vietnam to Atlanta, there are a number of connections each day from Atlanta to Roanoke.

Good luck!

I would also get in touch with the International Office and see if they have any suggestions to help you. I'm sure they don't want you to be stranded!

Thank you a lot for your advice =]
I asked the people from my class and I did receive several offers to help from some of them.

I'd also contact the International Office. Thank you =]

wondering if anyone has any additional info re: shuttle buses to richmond airport...
