I am in such a bad position right now. I want to demonstrate to my dream college(NYU Stern) that I am a capable student but with the new changes and a lack of information on what to study for and the curve, I am afraid to touch the SAT. Anyone on the same boat ?
Nope. I didn’t do as well as I wanted on the SAT in May so I’m retaking it in October and possibly in November. I’ll list my (as of now) current SAT score and the future dates I will be taking it. I may try the ACT, but since I’m efficiently procrastinating on SAT studying (taking two classes this summer) I might not take it.
If you don’t take the SAT, how will you show what you know? With different grading scales and inflation among schools, the SAT/ACT may be the only (despite ineffective) way to create a standard.
Remember, the new SAT doesn’t come out until March 2016!
@TheSlacker16 im taking only the ACT.
The SAT and ACT are both standardized tests, and most colleges accept either one. The ACTs are generally favored upon by West coast schools while the SAT is favored by East coast schools. Either way, you need to take one or both of them.
Only ACT. I don’t like either SAT, new or old, so I’m sticking with good ol’ ACT. And no college prefers either over each other. It’s all weighted the same. SAT is of course more popular but it doesn’t matter which one you take, as long as you score high.
I’m taking the old SAT because I like it much better than the new one and the ACT. However, I’m stuck with the new PSAT, which is annoying.
I took the SAT in June and did better than expected and I’m not taking it again. I was going to take the ACt but I have a disablity and they wouldn’t appprove my accommodations so I said forget it.
I’m a rising senior. I’m taking the ACT in September, and the SAT in October.
What grade are you in? If you’re a junior, then you could take the ACT whenever. It wouldn’t hurt to try the old SAT, and then the new one once the spring comes. If you’re a senior, then I would suggest taking the ACT in September. I’d also suggest trying the SAT. You might surprise yourself when it comes to your performance on the ACT vs. SAT. Some people are better at once than the other; it depends on what type of test you’re better at (aptitude vs. achievement). However, I see that you said that you only want to take the ACT. So, I would recommend to just keep practicing a lot between now and September.
I’m a rising senior, too. I took the SAT twice thus far and currently stand at a 2080.
At my school, my classmates are having issues with the SAT (only one kid has a 2150 thus far), but there are several kids who switched over to the ACT and had considerable success, scoring 34+.
I was eager to jump to the ACT, but there’s no way I can make it out of the science section without tanking my composite score, so I’ve elected to retake the SAT in October.
There’s no one-size-fits-all method, obviously and I wish you the best of luck!
D took both. 36 on ACT, 2040 on SAT. My recommendation for students is to take both if you can afford it. It is entirely possible you will score much better on the ACT or the SAT and then this may open a range of options in terms of scholarships and colleges
