Q: on the book store website one of my classes comes up with two options for books, one has books from the previous year like it says 7 books in past and then it has a second option listed as my course but with an eleven after it like 07006,11. what does this mean? what set of books should i get?
A: im not sure…maybe the eleven is for your discussion section? I would get the books required for the class first (first option) and then wait until your first day of class and hopefully your professor will explain the second option. Or email him/her.

GET EXCITED EVERYBODY! GOOD LUCK WITH MOVE-IN!!!

Q: For the harbor boat cruise during welcome week… were we supposed to buy tickets for that or notify anyone that we were going?
A: ummm i think i bought tickets last year. it was part of some package like welcome weekend for freshmen package. you can probably look into it at the office of first year experience as im sure they’ll have tickets for you if you ask now. and buy them. it’s a BLASTT and most people go.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO KEEP POSTING IN THIS THREAD (I’LL CHECK IT OCCASIONALLY) OR MESSAGE ME gooooo eagles!

Is the mandatory residential dining plan ($2000 ish) supposed to last for the entire year or just for the semester? I checked the interactive dining calculator and it said that for the money to last until the end of the semester, I can only spend about $20 a day on food, which doesn’t seem like much. What happens when you run out? Do you have to put more money on it, or have we already paid for the year and does it automatically replenish or something? Thanks x

Q: It’s 2000/semester. SPEND LIKE CRAZY. After the first semester it’ll carry over onto the second semester, but seriously–you’ll find that you’ll have so much money left over. At the end of the year people are scrambling to use up all of their dining hall money.

Hope you all are enjoying your first real days at BC! :)

Our son and many of his friends all ran out by the end of the year. Fortunately, they knew several female students who didn’t eat as much as they did and had money left on their plans, and gladly bought meals for them. The plan is a use-it-or-lose-it plan.

Haha ok, good to know! Thanks!
Also, I was a bit hesitant about ordering books before classes started since I didn’t know if I would drop any, but then I read that it’s better to have them before class and that the bookstore does take returns. Is it true that the bookstore takes returns on books before the add-drop date as long as they are in the same condition as when you bought them? What has your experience been with this?

A: Yeah. I would do that, too. Especially since once classes start, you never know if the bookstore will run out and you’ll have to wait another week for them to receive their new shipment. Oh. the bookstore doesn’t buy back anything that’s shrink-wrapped or any coursepacks (usually shrink-wrapped). ALSO yes, the bookstore takes back books and they’ll give you a refund but i think the last date to return/exchange books is sept 14. i thought i saw a sign in the entrance to the bookstore that said that. Probably should double check.

^^I was in the bookstore today and they said that they will accept open, shrink-wrapped items less a $5.00 fee to re-shrink-wrap them.

But since all of those packages are custom, it’s always good to ask before opening. And don’t forget amazon if you are in a rush. Amazon offers a free Prime account to college students. Prime gives you second day-air at no charge, or next-day air for $3.99.

1) Is race a big thing at BC? Because I’m noticing that each groups are breaking up by race…

2) Are a lot of the girls really fake at BC or is that just a beginning of the year thing? I’m getting that vibe from a lot of the girls on my floor

@wittlefelluh: This is random/weird but I’m in Cushing so it’s funny that you’re in hardey

Many people find it easier to associate themselves with people of a similar race. That may explain why you’re seeing that happen, but people are generally inclusive at BC.

Unfortunately, that is common at a lot of colleges. Heck, it’s even common at the UC’s where 50%+ are Asian. At such campuses, it it not uncommon for the Asians to self-segregrate by country, and speak the local language on campus.

A: I think it’s a first year thing. In the beginning people are trying to make friends so they go out of their way to be nice, friendly, etc. I’m not sure I would call it ‘fake’. You’ll find that later in the year people will find their niche and so the distance between you and them is going to get bigger.

Btw mosaicmural, if the race issue is something you’d like to discuss with a diverse group, I HIGHLY recommend joining FACES (First Year Program). You’ll meet with other freshmen once a week to talk about those things.
