Per my conversation with Jami today, AA dorm move-in is from 1-3 on Sun. and the kids will have some activity at 5pm that day. During the week, kids will be done around 1pm or so, then a break from 2-4, followed by an afternoon lecture. I asked about required reading before AA and she seemed to imply it was minimal. She did say that info will be sent next week.

Sophocles: Do you mean that AA check in is from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday? There are a lot of kids moving into the dorms all day Saturday and again, Sunday.

I was planning on sending son with a light backpack and notebook and pens for AA, but not sending him with a computer, just having him wait until he gets his the following week.

But since there is going to be a class associated with AA, I’m wondering if he will need a computer for online homework or online reading assignments.

Is there a computer lab in Riverside West, or anyplace close by where he can access a computer to use, if he needs one, for any Alabama Action homework?

Good question Montegut. S will also not have a computer, but we did use the computer lab in Ferguson during BB so I guess if need be they can head over there together, particularly since they’re both in Riverside West.

I’m taking the AA check-in is 1-3, not necessarily the move-in, I know we have a morning move-in time.

Alabama Action, a year ago, had no homework. The students went and took notes during the lectures. Then, at the end of the course, they were given a couple of weeks to write an essay on their reflections of the course, their community service experience, etc. If a student needs a computer, he or she can find them all over campus – the various libraries, the Honors College, etc.

I thought move-in for the dorms for AA students begins at 8 am.

I would call housing and check. I’d be surprised if it’s in the afternoon, but maybe it is. I think the AA check in time is 1-3. I think Jami may have thought you were asking what time kids check in for AA…not when they move into their dorm.

Socal, thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like a good idea. Glad to hear son won’t be the only one without a computer the first week. Can’t spare my work computer, and can’t justify buying a new one just for son to use for 10 days.

There are computers in the library and computers in the CBH lab and the honors lab.

D also won’t have a computer until she gets her NMF one; we were talking about this yesterday. She knew that the library had them, but thought that the Ferg did do. No? And where is the Honors lab? In Nott?

RodD - the one in Ferg is on the lower level in the back corner.

Thanks! I’ll let her know :)

I think there are some Ferg computers in the area between the front and back staircases.

I’m 99% sure that AA check-in is from 1-3, not AA move-in. You should have already signed up for a move-in time with housing and that is the time you are expected to move into your room. You would have been contacted should your move in time been changed from what you selected.

The ferg lab is in the back corner of the first floor. The library computers that are normally used to search the catalog also have internet and MS office.
