i found out today (from Florida) :]

so if I was nominated in CA but have not received any mail, I did not receive the scholarship?

Should I be expecting some kind of rejection letter or something to tell me that I didn't get it ( I live in Texas and it's pretty late now, so...)

rofflez - In California it seems like they're not letting students know directly. My daughter's school got a letter on June 12, and the school told us.

fillintheblank, sorry but yeah, I think it might be too late
I just sent out my confirmation letter today and it was supposed to be there by 5. I'm a little late, hope they're not too strict on this
Texas's deadline to reply was today
:( sorry

For some reason, Texas does not notify those nominated but not selected. If you haven't heard by now, it doesn't look good. You can always call the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to find out - the contact is Scipio Brown.

Massachusetts just notified winners... it seems as if MA does the selection stuff far later than any other state.

Congrats Moonlight! I heard that checks are being mailed out already in some states. My D hasn't received hers yet. As I recall, this is one of those that is mailed to you, then you have to send it to the school.

I think it depends on the state, if you get the check or if the school does. My D received the Byrd last year, it is renewed for this year, and all we had to do was fill out a small confirmation sheet which we sent back to the state and they will verify with her university. We get no check, but the uni gets it. I guess it is managed differently by different states' departments of education.

In Texas the checks are mailed directly to the colleges (twice a year). And there's no form to renew from one year to the next - they keep sending the checks until someone tells them otherwise.

Thanks MamaDiva :-)

In Massachusetts, according to my letter, they generally mail the check to you. However, I plan on attending one of the "except" schools; That is, if you plan on attenting Harvard, MIT, Brown, Georgetown or Dartmouth, they will mail the check directly to the university. I'm not too sure why it's the case only with those schools.

From MA and I recently received notice that I won the Byrd scholarship. Scholarship checks are sent directly to the scholarship recipient (made payable to your college) unless you happen to be attending one of the colleges on their exception list. In this case, they mail the checks directly to the college.

Does anyone know anything about this scholarship in Mississippi?

I saw the Mississippi results on the dept of ed. website. Sorry I don't have the link, but if you google it, the scholars link is on the side of the page. DS did get it, thank goodness.

Has anyone received the funds to your school from this scholarship? If not, anyone has any idea when this scholarship will show up? Thank you.

Ohio: daughter got the check yesterday 8/23/08 but Stanford insists they will be receiving it even though I tried to tell them otherwise.

Check was sent directly to son's school a couple of weeks ago and the only notice we received was when it was posted to his account.

My son is at ASU and school starts tomorrow. Nothing show up at his account yet. I just wonder how others are doing at this point.

Yep, no notice from them yet. I've tried phoning their contact in my state but always get the voicemail.

Good... it doesn't show up in my D's account either. We got a letter back in early July or so saying it was going to go directly to the school, so it is in the works, I believe. But I am getting a little uneasy, as it came a couple of weeks earlier last year... We shall see. The school is not bugging us yet, though.
