I wasn’t sure if it applied to him/her because Pomona did this thing where they posted an admitted students reception sign up form on the portal and it turned out that rejected students also had that too. When they found out that meant nothing, they were heartbroken.
Since @minohi does not have one (and I don’t have one either, despite not having received a decision yet) it MAY, apply to you–but I can’t tell you that it’s 100% true.
I received an email around 20 minutes about the alternate list option (aka waitlist)
By the way in the email they said about 3% of applicants are given this option. Does anyone know what the waitlist stats are like? Does URochester admit people off the waitlist or is it rare?
I just received an email about 20 minutes ago and got a Alternate List Reply Form as well… It was on my myroc and I had to fill it out. Basically its like being wait listed -__-
You CAN be accepted ONLY IF SPACE IS AVAILABLE and they give you admissions later on in April and May.
The email letter said that approx. 3% of the applicants are invited to join the alternate list. If you’re admitted you will still have the same status as any other admitted student such as living on campus housing, orientation in August, and retain full eligibility for financial aid.
I’m kind of worried though because most colleges have a deadline where you pay for their deposit which is usually May 1… What happens if I get admitted after May 1 from Rochester and I’ve already paid my deposit to another college…?
@sorbet: The way a wait list generally works is that you must make a deposit to another college by May 1. In the event the school who wait listed you (Rochester) notifies you of acceptance, they will generally call you/email you, and give you a small period of time to accept. If you choose to accept, you will alert the original college you made the deposit for, and make a new deposit for Rochester. The drawback is that generally the deposit is non-refundable, so you will be losing money (anywhere’s from $200 - $1,000, depending on the school) from the original school.
@jamesjunkers: oh okay. Do you know if Rochester usually accepts people from their wait list or in this case their “alternate” list? I know most colleges only accept up to single digits of amount of people from their wait list…
@sorbet: Sorry, I do not know specifics for UR. You can try calling up to get trends from past years, but generally there is a slim chance of being taken off a wait list. Best of luck though, I’ll be rooting for you!
I am a student from NYC and I have yet to heard back from them. I am still on Step 4 (for the past month and a half) and there is no alternative wait list anywhere on the portal? Does that mean automatic rejection or like did they forget about me? It seems like only international students are only waiting. I think that all local students have already heard but me as people form my school have been either rejected or accepted. Should I call them or wait a little longer? thanks
@idkbruhh Just wanted to let you know I’m also relatively local, and in the same situation as you. I’m the only one at my school who hasn’t gotten a decision yet. Hopefully ours will be on their way soon… good luck!! ^:)^
Don’t worry about it too much, @yxh2106, I haven’t received anything either. You don’t want to receive the “alternate form” because that means you haven’t been accepted (only assuming here but it makes the most sense.) Keep your head up - if you’re meant to get in, you will!
To those of you who are worried because you haven’t heard back yet, I’m from New York and I haven’t heard back either. Every other person from my school who I know applied to Rochester already heard back. I’m trying not to jump to conclusions though.
