@dhanvit what are your stats and what was your intended major?
Thanks for sharing your decision even though it was not what you wanted.

GPA: 3.3
ACT: 27
Major: biomed engineering
@dhanvit Wow…so your picture stayed as UP and you were deferred to Altoona? I guess the picture thing isn’t that accurate after all. I’m so sorry. I really thought you were getting into UP. The picture thing has been accurate with people who had chosen other campuses as a back up in the past. I guess we can’t really rely on it now. I know this is discouraging.
Thats a bummer @dhanvit Hopefully they will reconsider for Summer or Undecided. Keep us posted.
Thanks for the support guys! gonna go cry myself to sleep now!
@dhanvit Do not be too discouraged… Call them tomorrow to first see if you can switch to undecided or possibly summer. The major you applied to is very competitive. If PSU is your first choice school I am positive that you will be attending.
And for all of those that have read my constant complaints about the wait…… MY SON’S STATUS CHANGED SOMETIME LATE AFTERNOON TO “COMING DAYS” MESSAGE. Had to type that in all caps because it’s about time. Applied Smeal on Sept 24th. Yay!!
@mamahills yea!!! Finally your turn! I am absolutely not patiently waiting, lol. I’ve refreshed 10 times today. Thinking good thoughts for you! Good luck!!
Thank you and hoping same for you too @jlhpsu. My son’s status changed sometime between 2pm and 7pm today. Will post when decision is final
So I have a question…and it’s not intended to make anyone mad as we would do whatever possible to get admitted if initially denied as well - but what does getting denied and then calling and changing to DUS/Summer do to those who are still waiting to hear and have originally applied DUS and/or summer?
I am watching these denials come in with a lot of people saying they are going to call and switch to DUS and summer to get into UP, and I’m worried because my D has yet to hear and she applied DUS and summer option from the start back on September 2nd. She honestly is what DUS is intended for…kids who aren’t sure yet what they’d like to study. I’d like to think the new major changers would get put in “line” behind those who have been waiting, but if I’ve learned anything in this process it’s that there isn’t even a line. I know I’m getting jumpier as we get towards the finish line - but it truly is concerning to me…and we don’t even have a status change yet.
@jlhpsu, I could be wrong (you could go back through last year’s thread and try to figure it out), but I think in most of those cases (where someone reapplied for DUS/summer) the decisions came much later in the spring. I really think applicants who met the priority deadline (like your DD) will have their decisions BEFORE anybody who’s requested being re-evaluated is even looked at.
@LucieTheLakie I did look through last years posts and for some at least, it seemed they called, asked to be reconsidered and they found out within a week or so that they were in. That’s why I became concerned. If my D doesn’t get into main campus, I don’t think we have any recourse as she’s already applied DUS and summer - but the good news is, we only have 10 days max until we know something.
Interestingly, I’ve seen several posts which seem to indicate that the “picture” change is not at all accurate this year for some reason.
LucieTheLakie…I hope you are right. I am just as jumpy as jlhpsu and my D is exact situation. Choosing undeclared because D is not sure yet of a major. D too picked summer because she would attend summer if that was where PSU placed her. Happy for everyone who has heard and fingers crossed for all of us that haven’t yet…#10 days
I know for sure some of those kids that called and switched to summer or DUS heard within a few days to a week. A few of my son’s friends did this last year.
I don’t believe they are taking anyone’s place. If anything, they may not change or even offer these options if DUS or summer was full when they called in.
I think the decisions have been made to all applicants that applied before NoV 30th. They just haven’t been notified yet.
@PERplexD very interesting theory that decisions have been made already. @jlhpsu I’m going to be optimistic and think that there’s no way they would bump other kids out of DUS who haven’t been notified and/or evaluated yet. It just can’t work that way. My son also waiting for DUS after a true change of heart away from pre-med. Am thinking that DUS will be best for him because hopefully he can try different things before he declares a major.
I asked my son yesterday which was better–schools that were rolling with uncertain notifications or schools with true notification dates. He wasn’t able to really answer it. I think the answer is–those who accept him
I would say that Pitt and Indiana, who seem to have true rolling “first in, first out” do it better. But hopefully, like childbirth, this frustration will all be forgotten in another 2 weeks.
good luck to all of you. I hope all of you get in.
as for me I applied only last week and psu got all the requirements this week and I guess I have to wait for some months now.
I applied to smeal but now I feel like that I should’ve applied DUS since its easier to get in. I’m a international student so priority deadline is only feb 1 but I’m really scared that If i get rejected by smeal I could not apply for DUS because it will be full. I really hope I get into penn state and again I am very sorry for you for waiting for months before you get your decisions. If the news is good then all this will be forgotten in a moment. So good luck
I’m starting to wonder if PSU realized they were tipping their hand with the posted photos last year and have adjusted accordingly. I’m also wondering if more applicants decided to apply DUS/summer going in this year once word got out about how many kids got in last year by being willing to change their preferred program/start dates. Really hard to know, but I’m sure the Class of 2020 will have a joyous time trying to read the tea leaves here next year!
^^^^ I think this is exactly what PSU is doing, too! Class of 2020 is on their own.LOL
@ncny215 I say this only because if PSU truly gets 40,000-60,000 applications a year, they certainly can’t wait until the last few weeks to go through these applications and make these decisions under ~3weeks. They are probably still getting applications.
@PERplexD that actually makes sense. When I called admissions the other day, their wording was
“We will start RELEASING decsions this week” … which sounds like they already have decisions. Not sure why they just don’t release them all! Maybe to limit phone calls etc…
and yes, class of 2020 is on their own since it seems to make even less sense this year!
Have ANY kids gotten denied yet? I’ve only heard of acceptances. It would suck to wait until 1/30 and then be denied…
