Last year and the year before, statuses were updated over the weekend prior to MLK day. Penn State also says they do update 7 days a week, but most updates happen M-F.
Does anyone know if admissions is in their offices tomorrow?
I heard that they are in offices tomorrow based on previous threads and they usually post on their blog when they are out of office.
No status change yet for me. Penn State was the first school that I applied to and the last one to hear back from, it seems. I heard back from UPitt in 3 weeks and I applied “late” and Pitt is not an academically weak school either…
Same here: No change. Anyone want to make a guess as to what percentage have already heard a decision? It’s been established on these threads that the “A Team” has already gotten their acceptances, and then there was a wave shortly after that one. I don’t know if that makes us “the bench” or “the masses.” I’m going to guess (judging from our hs so far) that 10% have heard? More?
I think very few have heard. I don’t know of anyone that heard back from my sons school except a kid also applying to Harvard so that just about sums it up!
A friend of my daughter got her acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. But she was Arts and Architecture and I’ve seen a number of those decisions released. My D is DUS and I’ve seen almost none of those released yet. I think the 10% number is probably accurate. Lots of admissions on twitter, but when you dig down into the comments you can see that many of them are for branch campuses.
For what it’s worth, I did just call admissions with a question. I just noticed an omission in my daughters transcript in that it does not show on her HS transcript that she is doing dual enrollment this year. So her senior year rigor does not look all that impressive when you see just the 4 classes at the HS listed (even though they are all honors). I want to make sure they make note of the fact that she is spending her senior year taking college level classes at PSU. They told me to call back at 1pm to speak to an admission counselor. They aren’t taking calls until then.
My school has a program called naviance that shows acceptance history and such for each graduating class. So far out of the 311 that have applied from my school district, 68 have gotten in. This is about a 22% acceptance rate so based on these numbers about 100 people still have to be accepted for their 50% acceptance rate. Very few people have been accepted and my status has not changed yet either.
Do you think that 10% is all acceptances, or includes some number of denies?
@dhanvit Very interesting. We also have naviance, but it doesn’t get updated until end of school year because they want to update using graduating GPAs and 100% of the decisions. We generally have an 80-90% acceptance rate, but I honestly don’t know if that includes summer or not. I just know that it is exclusively for UP. Since we only know of one person who has gotten an outright deny for UP this year, I have assumed that 99% of the people who have heard so far are all acceptances.
Yup ours gets updated asap and the numbers hasn’t changed in a week or so. This is also exclusive for UP only.
Been stalking for a while, but figured I’d chime in with our experiences. 57 kids from our NY high school have applied according to Naviance. 12 have been accepted, all high achievers. No idea how many are waiting, but my son still is. We haven’t heard of any decisions in the new year. Son originally applied to Eberly for Pre-Med, but has since decided he might not be going pre-med route, so switched to DUS in early Jan. Mid-level candidate, I think. Put Summer as back up. Applied 10/5.
My daughter applied in November of 2011 to School of Health and Human Development. Was accepted in 2 weeks. 3.87 GPA and full IB program. 23 ACT. They are very different students (she had higher GPA, lower test, he has the reverse) applying to different programs so hard to compare.
My son is eager to hear and we’re in the same boat as the rest of you --hopeful that the waiting will all be over in the next 2 weeks.
My naviance doesn’t update (so jealous that yours all do) but in the past UP has had an 80% acceptance rate of kids from my school. Hopefully it works out.
My school has 65 applicants in the past few years and 54 have been accepted. Last year 10/16 applicants got in, and that was the lowest percentage I can see. The year before it was 100% acceptance. This (all years) includes a kid with below an 80GPA, and more than 90% acceptance with kids in the 80s.
Status updated to “in the coming days” today!!!
Good Luck @PSUMom1321 !!! I can’t wait until it’s my daughters turn for her status change!
That’s great @PSUMom1321! What time did her status change?
@mcfet1991 @jihpsu … Thanks, but now we’re really anxious! It changed between 4:30 and 6:00 pm today. I must have checked at least twenty times today. I’ll need therapy after all this is over…
@PSUMom1321 did she put a back up campus or get a picture change?
I think when outs finally changes I won’t even believe it, lol! We have been seeing the same status for 4 1/2 months! I will be happy to never see the words “reviewing credentials” again!
@jihpsu no back up campus, only wants UP. No pic change, still UP, but from what I’ve read, that means nothing… So we wait and pray and wait and pray. Good luck to you…hope you update too!
I just got accepted to Altoona I’m so mad I thought the picture thing was accurate I’m going to call tomorrow to see if I can go in the summer or go undecided
