rolling admissions complications

well…i have a slight safety/match(legacy) at a rollin admissions college(michigan), however…im also applying to 12 other colleges…a lot so i was hoping to wait for hopefully acceptance around ive heard as early as late october then…judge accordingly and then perhaps send only about 3 or 4 of the remaining “reach” school apps…

anyone have any advice…obviously the admissions receipt in late october isnt a garuntee so is it wise to do this?..im also keeping in consideration i havta get my teachers to write me recs early as possible, and if i give the recs to them before i get my acceptance…theyd be sending recs to colleges i wouldnt even apply to…waste of their time and energy…as well as just mass confusion…

any help from ppl from maybe similar situations??

also anyone have any michigan scholarship stats fer me??

Well, from the way things have gone the last few years, I have to tell you that you may NOT hear from Michigan by October. That's when they'll send the earlier acceptances out, but they generally don't go deeply into the applicant pool at that point. Outstanding applicants who applied that early may hear then. Students who profile more like middle-of-the-road applicants are probably going to wait longer. Michigan has had crazy yield "problems" the last two years (I mean, it's a nice problem when people are hot on the school but it's a complication when it so far exceeds predictions.) I know Michigan will have to be cautious this year and in October it will be too early for them to know how the applicant pool is shaping up.

So all this to say: good for you for applying early! But if you're applying to LSA or engineering, be aware that you won't necessarily get an "early" answer.

Given this, I would suggest you send your first wave of apps to the colleges you are most interested in, and then wait on the others. If you get an early answer from U-M, great, proceed as you planned and don't apply to the remainder. If you don't hear, then you may want to send apps to the rest of the 12.

thank u so much for ur advice...i was afraid id havta send in my other "safety" and middle of the road school apps...

umm..jus curoius i have a 1490 sat, 1530 combine...2230 combine w/ a 3.93 uw gpa...u think maybe i have a chance for early admission, like in late october?

also..any advice on the whole getting my teacher recs in since i havta do em early..but i dont want them to send em in yet...i dont wanna tell them that im not even sure im going to apply to the colleges they are spending their effort doing a rec for....ne alternatives?

JudasDevotion, no sweat.

Judas, Most teachers will save a copy of the recommendation on their computer. Then, it's just a matter of them printing out the written recommendation letter and checking off the boxes if you decide to add schools later. As a courtesy, however, let them know in advance that you may have to send more recommendations out later depending on your early results. Most teachers will have no objection to doing so and indeed probably have done so in the past after people were rejected from ED schools. Good luck!

Judas:

Yes, I think you have a quite decent chance at hearing in a timely manner.

With similar stats, and OOS legacy, my S heard by late October, two years ago. So there's a very good chance you will too. Just have a plan for going forward in the unlikely event you don't hear (just to let you know, he applied mid-September.)

thanks so much
