Rolling Admissions Kent?

Hi everyone.
I have decided to apply to kent as a late admit for the 2014-2015 year going into 10th grade. I was wondering if i would have any chance at getting in because i need 80% financial aid. My SSATS were 73% which is right around their average. I would also have a personal recommendation from an alumni who us well known in the media.
THanks

I don’t think, but I may be wrong, that you can be admitted to a school as a late applicant unless they have actual rolling admissions. If you are qualified to get in (and would have the possibility of being accepted during the regular season), you will most likely be placed on the waitlist. Then, with the off-chance that you are removed from the waitlist (most people removed from it are taken off around now), you will need to hope and pray that enough financial aid has found its way back to the school.

I believe the only way you can get in now is having a very special hook- spectacular athlete, superstar academic, wonderful artist, going to donate a building. Something the school would be willing to make room for. That would also be a good way to make sure you get aid, but it’s always worth a shot.

My only advice would be apply to a few schools with rolling admissions or have a viable day/public option back home.

A lot of schools have rolling admissions but the chances of you getting in is extremely low, and it would be unless you donate a building in your family’s name.

Oh, when I say rolling admissions, I mean schools that actually will accept people anytime before a specific date. Because, if I’m correct, Kent has a due date, and you cannot really get in after that date.

I see. Well, most schools have rolling admissions, as in you are allowed to apply, but the furthest you’d get would be on the waitlist.

Kent and most other selective schools are now in the process of drawing from their waitlists, after the 10-April commitment deadline for the primary round of admitted students. In the near coming days they will have filled their remaining slots & will have exhausted their financial aid budget by their WL admits and by the FA admits appealing for even more FA.

I agree w pdl100 above. Since u need such a large sum for FA and have SSAT scores that are only near the school’s avg, u will need to bring some EXCEPTIONAL hook to the table to be seriously considered at this late stage of admissions & FA consideration.

I know 1st hand of two late applicants who were offered admission at selective schools. In S1’s admission cycle there was a kid whose dad was chairman of a Fortune100 company. And this year in S2’s admission cycle, I know a kid who was admitted to multiple schools w a 99th percentile test score and a knock’em-dead killer hook. Both of these kids were full pay. The schools were not rolling admissions schools.

If u wish to continue to pursue boarding school, your more viable options are to apply in the next admissions cycle for 2015 enrollment as an 11th grader or as a repeat-10th grader. In the meanwhile, u should work towards raising your SSAT score to make yourself as competitive a candidate as possible in the very crowded FA applicant pool.

There’s a difference between rolling admissions and being able to apply. Find rolling admissions schools and apply to them if you need boarding school- otherwise you need to have a viable home option.
