I'm planning on applying to penn state as soon as possible. I have a 3.2 gpa and a 26 w/writing and 27 without (ACT). I'm a female applying for a biomedical engineering major. My question is whether I should wait until my test results from the sept ACT date come back or just apply now with my scores. I have a lot of extracurricular (robotics team, soccer, job, misc volunteer work) and I think I can sell myself in a personal essay (I didn't have it easy growing up and I screwed myself over by not realizing I needed to work hard until I was a junior). I also took 6 IB classes last year and 5 this year, transferred to a new school my junior year, and managed to go from a small Christian school to a massive public school. So should I wait, or would it make sense to chance it and hope applying early helps!

Your stats put you on borderline between no / maybe for university park. It is rare that anything other than GPA and scores carry much weight at all at Penn State. Also, the school of engineering is one of the more difficult schools to get into.

If you feel like your scores are going to improve significantly I would suggest waiting. Also, for best chance of admissions I would apply undecided and indicate a willingness to attend summer session.

I’m on the same boat as Hrotten, but I have a 3.8 GPA, 26 on ACT, and I also plan to take the Sept. ACT. I’ve taken Math Level II subject test, 790. I’ve taken some AP tests and received a 5, 4, and 3 on calculus, art studio, and physics, respectively. Do I have any chance in getting into Penn State?

There is a big difference between the your 3.8 and the 3.2 above. 3.8 puts you at the border between maybe and yes for university park. You have a good chance of admission.

@thatshik1024 @Dreadpirit gee thanks…

I’m in the same situation as both of you, but I have a 3.55 GPA, 1770 on the SAT, and I am going to take the October SAT and ACT. I’m going to take AP Calculus this year as well. I plan on applying for a HOspitality Management major. Should I wait to send my application in after taking both my SAT and ACT? Also, what do you think my chances will be?
