My S received his room assignment and will be in Queen Anne's. Does anyone know if the rooms are similar in size to those in Denton? Also, are there a lot of freshman assigned to this dorm? I thought that Denton was the main area for freshman honors. Thanks for any input.

Most honors freshmen are assigned to Denton. But some of them are put in the other honors dorms due to lack of space. There are upsides and downsides to being in Queen Anne's. It's one of the most beautiful dorms on campus, is air-conditioned (unlike the freshmen highrises), is in a convenient and gorgeous location directly behind the mall, the rooms are much bigger than those in Denton, and you share a bathroom with a relatively small number of people. But although Denton is grungy, hot, and out of the way, a lot of freshmen prefer to live in a highrise community to bond with the other incoming students. Queen Anne's houses mostly sophomores and juniors and is (apparently) a lot less social.

I almost requested to live in Queen Anne's because I thought that the highrise communities were really depressing (inside and out!) and out of the way. But I decided that I preferred Denton because I wanted to be with most of the other freshmen. Still, it's definitely no death-sentence to live in Queen Anne's, instead!

wth is so hard about saying "son"?!?! jebus

your son is LUCKY!
i lived in QA second semester my freshman year, right as it reopened after being renovated. like umcp11 said, the rooms are huge, air conditioned, and have a great location. true, it will be a less social atmosphere than the high-rise dorms, but there will still be freshmen around. i think your son will have to try a little bit harder to meet people those first few days, but it should work out alright. once people hear that he lives in an A/C dorm, they'll all want to hang out with him!!!

Hey! I'm living in Queen Anne's this fall as well. There are a good amount of freshmen in QA--I had a lot of friends that lived there last year (I was in Denton). May I ask what floor he's on? It's either the basement or 2nd floor.

He will be on the second floor. What would be the best size rug that he needs for the room? Thanks

living in QA as a freshie sux, every1 on south campus already has their click with whom they associate and are not usually interested in meeting new people, it is much quieter and it is hard to meet people and find out waht people are doing on the weekends, one of my best friends lived in QA his freshman and we are all so jealous...but then we quickly discovered that he was out of the social loop and had made no new friends in the first 2 weeks...hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that is just my experience...ac is nice though, but i prefer friends

To counter that (don't scare new students!), I had several friends who lived in QA their freshman year and had a great time. Instead of the typical floor bonding that goes on, the freshmen in QA bonded as a building (since there weren't as many of them). As long as you make the effort to be social in the beginning (hint: get a door stopper), you will have no problem making friends. Plus, since I know a lot of the people in QA this year, I will tell you that they are some of the most social people I've ever met--my friend Alysse made it a point to meet EVERYONE in the building last year.

questions07, does your son play soccer by any chance? I might try to start up an intramural team in the fall from guys in the building. (btw, I'm on the 2nd floor as well)

somebodynew-- good point about the door stopper! unlike the residence halls in north campus, QA doors swing shut by themselves.

Yeah, they're heavy...then again, the doors in Denton swung shut if you had those over the door hanger things that I had. (I just used my can of iced tea mix to keep it open.)

QA will be chill. I'm not going to lie, it was a lot of fun in Easton last year, but having a nice, comfy place to chill would have been lovely. Keep in mind, you can always go to North Campus and hang out with friends (once you make them that is!). And considering the location, it makes it very easy for friends to stop by while out on the mall for classes to grab lunch, etc. etc.

Final word: In all honesty, to ME, the advantage of North Campus was drinking. If you don't drink, I don't think you will miss a beat. If you want to drink in the dorms and do stupid/funny stuff, of course North Campus is where all that happens. Depends on what type of person you are, really.

I'm all moved into 2113...and about 50% unpacked and organized. Anyone else moved in yet?

My honorary son will be in QA -- air conditioning is a big plus. We understand that there are more freshmen in QA this year because the Honors yield was higher than usual. He had hoped for Denton, but is looking forward to moving in this weekend. I think he's on the 2nd floor, too.

It's FREEZING in here!

lucky... my house has central A/C but it's so hot that the upstairs is still stifling!! one of those times when i wish i was still in the dorms.

everyone's moving in...and I' m doing laundry lol
